Agree with you on moving away from the HOOD to better a  young man!

I knew that when I became a mother that I couldn't raise him in the city!

I'll rep the East side of Detroit til the day that I die but I'm not going to raise him were schools have become **** poor and the crime/insurance rates are steadily rising.

Thanks God for creating, Jesus for saving, and the Holy Ghost for sustaining ME!

My son is only seven and I will do whatever it takes to ensure he has a good head start. I'm not downing the hood, but if it's not a must that we live there, why should we?

I don't think moving is the solution...though I live in the burbs, DJ's mom still lives in the city. He goes, as well as we go to the city all the time. The inner-city is home for DJ. He has seen the best and worst of both worlds. Out here, he felt the sting of discrimination first-hand! However, he had been educated on the inner-city and the burbs...he knew what things may or may not happen and how to deal with the situation.

You can take the kids out of the hood, but can you take the hood out of the child?

Yes because my hood will come out in a min....I can go from 0 to 60 real quick

My son has only known the burbs for schools and sometimes I wish he could know both worlds

Kennedi has never attended a predominately black school. DJ has...always had until we moved to Ohio...Kerri had until we moved here....

Kenn, the girl is just WOW...she can handle things better cause in her position at her age...her mommy would be EXPELLED....I do not have the "hood rat mentality", but I am what people would refer to as "ghetto." I don't care either...I am comfy with my who!

~hyprocrite arising~ though when I see Kerri rolling her damn neck I try to break her back

and to show the surburbia in them...they call people "booties" ~roll eyes~

and Kenn and her BFF who is from Pakistan or wherever be trying to talk slang "Wut up dawg--ruff~"

My baby cannot talk or type slang ~SMDH~

I'm like, Boo, just give up or sign up for Slang 101 taught by your mommy!

Keeping our son's active is KEY and having positive reinforcement ie. a good a$$ whoppin every now and then!!!!

My self I'm a single mother, my son's father has been in prison almost as long as our son's has been alive.(My kid is 7)  I look at him and see how his mother made excuses for him left and right on why he was there. It's Simple his butt did wrong wanted things the quick and easy way  and was not willing to work for it and now paying for it.

Some black mothers baby their son's and end up enabling them to become strong MEN.

Good role models can help too I'm blessed that my two best friends are Strong Black Men that don't have records, have good jobs and can show my son how to grow up in this world with respect and values. Because kids see what you do or say and hold you too even when you don't know it(See my post about him pulling my care)

Just my cents

Thanks God for creating, Jesus for saving, and the Holy Ghost for sustaining ME!

That is one of Phil's philosphies...he says sports saved him (and yes he grew up with a STRONG BLACK mother and his father was a parent...not a father)....we kept DJ in sports...he is in college on athletics scholarship....he also ensure the youths he mentor are busy all summer. Phil works a full-time and only works with them part-time so he took them all to the Community Action Agency and they got summer jobs....he meets them after work 3 days a week and also spends a Saturday or Sunday with them.

Funny that we are on this topic today because I get a call from the Boys and Girls Club where my son goes and he has been SUSPENDED for his behavior!!!

Had to leave work early and now I have to find someone to watch him for three days!!

Please believe I was on his butt like white on rice, XBOX360 is out of the room and I may even get him again when he wakes up!! Our work as parents is never done.  When raising these boys you go from wanting to protect them to making them strong. I'm on the verge of tears typing this because he knows better because I teach him better and he still wants to act a monkey!!!

The girl at the club said "Oh we have documents of when he acted out" So I keep my cool  but asked why am I just being told about this now when I could have addressed it then"

She said Oh you are right, I can tell you don't play because he started crying as soon as I called you!!!   So I told her as quick as you called me to tell me he was suspended you can call me about anything else......

If you let kids get away with it they will try it plus some!!!

He will still do Football this summer because it keeps him activity and the men work good with all the boys   (Plus no refund on my 250.00)

OK I digress
