Hey BAF!!

OK - so I've made it through 2 family reunions with out eating like I haven't had WLS but lately I can't shake the ice cream cravings. Stopped by the dairy queen for a small cone, didn't eat the cone but ended up with a mad headache, shakes and sleepiness I couldn't shake. I know about the sugar free Popsicles, etc.

I'm looking for a real substitute for soft ice cream? Or is this something else I need to give up and move on?

When nothing else could help................LOVE lifted me!!!!

try soy icecream or the no sugar added or sugar free  brands or tofu ice cream most major grocery stores carry it and also health food stores......however even with these types I recommend you only eat a kiddie size cup of it because of the sugar alcohols

Hey Talisha !

There are plenty of substitutes for soft icecream or ice-cream period.  You have to check your frozen food isle at your local market.

There's frozen yogurt,  there's sorbet or sherbert......( its more like a soft fruit icecream) and then theres the italian gelato thats really good.

I also like Laughing Cow, Blue Bunny,  Klondike or Good Humor  products.  Many of them come in 100 calories or sugar free varieties as they are made with Splenda.

Im a junkie,  gotta have a snack or two after dinner.  Hope this helps
And to answer your question...I wouldnt give it up....that would depriving ourselves and thats never the answer.  I usually work out harder at the gym so I can indulge

In life,  and especially on this journey there are sure to be days when you falter and give in.......just remember to never give up.

carvel has fat free soft serve in vanilla and chocolate.   but i'm saying that as somebody who isn't bothered by milk post-op.   does the fat  bother you or dairy/lactose in general?  not sure i wanna encourage you to walk into a mcdonalds but their vanilla sundae is frozen yogurt that does a dayum good ice cream imitation, it's num-yummy

I say give it up and move on for now....what food you can eat right now I would think ought to be good protein and veggie, not empty calories from ice cream.  just my .02.

I make my own form of ice cream. Yogurt with frozen fruit(strawberry, mango, watermelon, canteloup, pineapple)I will throw it in a blender add low sugar orange juice and blend it all together and it comes out like a real thick shake..you can make it as thick as you like or as soup as you like depending on how much juice you add....but remember to freeze the fruit first.....if you can do protein powder add it to it.
