Well if you are like me, your periods will be VERY heavy, but your cycle should get on track.  Make sure you get regular iron checks as well.

Hey there,

I havent had wls yet, but my Mirena was placed in May and things are just now starting to normalize. I had the cramping, bloating, and spotting as well. I would say give it atleast another month or 2 to work. My Dr. warned me that the bleeding and cramping and such may last for 3-4 months before things go back to normal. I was thinking about getting my IUD removed after a few weeks of having it but I am glad that I stuck it out.

Good Luck

My choice was an IUD or NuvaRing. I had heard so many difficulties with Mirena, that I opted reluctantly for the Nuva Ring (although I wasnt a fan of the inserting stuff).   I am glad I have it.  My periods are now normal, last about 5 days, and I dont have any spotting or breakthru bleeding.  If the IUD is bothering you still after a few more months, I would talk to your gynecologist or have it removed. At this point though, its a little premature as it usually takes any birth control at least 3-4 months before your body adjusts to it.

Yeah that's true. I loved the nuvaring but wanted something a little more permanent and the cycle started acting crazy but that could've been from the rapid weight loss.

My cycle was messed up for about two months then everthing got back to normal.  I actually may only spot no real period now.

Edited to add I have Mirena

VSG on 12/20/07 with
pre-op i had mirena, which i never adjusted to.  my fault - it was going on month 6 and i could not get used to sucka punch cramps and looking like a crime scene.   gyn wanted to talk about nuvaring after that but i couldn't.  i wouldn't say there were too many difficulties, but the few i had were too hard for me to keep putting up with 6 months in.

My experience....after surgery I was doing the shots....after a about 2 years I had an IUD inserted...after 4 years I am satisfied with my decision....I'll need to replace it in 2011 and for the most part it's one of the best decisions I've made!!!.....I have no complaints...

I keep pressing on....a lifetime of challenges...but still I rise!!!....Thank U God!!!

I have an IUD and I do not have any problems.  I only have a little spotting some months and some months I do not get one at all.  Just like everyone that has posted here, I think it is the kind of IUD you have.  Good Luck
