Hey Ladies,

I need some help! I had an IUD put in about a month ago and my cycle has been jacked up.........cramping, bloating and most of all random heavy cycles (I mean HEAVY). Has anyone had an IUD before or after WLS? I see my doc today and I'm thinking about getting it removed. Should I hold out for a few more months? Will anything change? I know everyone's body is different but wondering if anyone else experienced too many difficulties.

........thinking about going back to the nuvaring

When nothing else could help................LOVE lifted me!!!!

Yeah I had one put in last year and the first 6 months my body was confused as heck lol........but now all that has calmed down ...havnt  had a period in over 9 months now......what an awesome thing    edited to add: My IUD was put in place to get rid of my heavy periods and shrink my fibroids ...not for birth control cause my baby factory has been closed for 15 years now.

I am on year 2 of my Mirena IUD - took about 7 months to level out everything and now I am like clockwork and light as a feather!

Stick it out - it'll get better.

Now light.............I can work with. where you heavy at first? I guess that's my biggest issue; it's been so bad........I'm talking 2 pads and tampon (which I was told not to do) every hour. I felt like I was going to faint. For real

Talisha,
I was doing the same thing--2 pad and tampon for the first 2-3 days of my cycle.  I also had raisin size clots(EEEWWWW!  TMI).  My GYN said she couldn't beleive I put up with that for 4 years!  I told her that it was beter than having a baby!  One is enough for me!

Yes - it was heavy for me at first. Not the every hour you are talking about but very heavy for ME - I too questioned whether I could 'ride' it out - but then it leveled out and I am good now.  I have a 5 day period around the same time every month, first day is light, days 2-3 are a bit heavier then taper off after that.  No cramps tho, which is really great.

Hi Talisha,
It's funny that you post this today.  Which IUD do you have?  There are two kinds--Paragard (no hormones) and the Merena (hormones).  I had the Paragard inserted 4 years ago.  I recently found out from my doctor that my iron levels are dangerously low and my heavy periods play a big factor.  (The paragard makes my periods VERY VERY heavy).  In June my hemo level was 6.0 so my doctor suggest I take an iron pil 3 times a day.  I just had my hemo check again on Tuesday and my count is 6.8.  I had my paragard removed two weeks ago and my GYN inserted the Merena because (in most women) it will stop your cycle completely.  I don't plan on keeping it in long because I don't like the fact of not having a period--that natures way of clensing your body.  My doctor suggest that I get a blood transfusion because my iron levels are dangerous low.  I'm not too crazy about that either, but the benefits outweight the risk--I guess...
Have you had you iron levels tested?

Hey Carol,

I used to think about the cleansing thing too - however - if you are not planning on getting pregnant there's actually no medical reason to have a period.  The purpose of the period is to dispense of the body's preparation to be pregnant.  the IUD stops that process - so there's nothing to get 'rid' of.

Check with your doc on this - it may change your view about having the IUD removed.
