OT: Some racial things ARE true...... ain't they?

Aiight - let's get to thinking in here peoples!

So - with the whole Supreme Court thingee going on, I'm thinkin some racial things said are true.  Homegirl said some ish like 'a Latina woman can make better judgement calls in some cases than a white dude' - something to that effect.  and you know what?

I BELIEVE SHE'S RIGHT.

Let's just take my job for example - my boss (white man if you ain't already guess) will come up with some of the most insensitive crap in the world!  Homie tried to tell folk they couldn't take time off to vote - that they had to make up the time.  ummm, you can't do that, dawg - lemme help you around that.

Why is it so infammatory to suggest that the life expereience of one person would make them better equipped to handle some decisions than another?  One of the reasons I am SO good at the job I do is being a single parent!  I can work a budget like a stripper on a pole!!!!  I come up with creative ways around issues and 'roadblocks' - folk think i am a magician sometimes - but it's because of my life experience at having to make $1.00 outta $0.15.  I doubt some Ivy league privilged mofo could come up with some of the things I have on the fly.

So what say you????

We are on the same page as far as all of this goes. Let's talk about making a $1 stretch I can do it. Like they say rob Peter to pay Paul (dats me)

It's really starting to **** me off with all of the media coverage that that statement has brought.
IMO she's correct, however she should have worded it differently.  Maybe something like.....I would be better suited for the position because of my past experiences than a person who has not.....
I say that because it has nothing to do with the fact that she is Latina that she has experienced certain things.
Trailer parks are full of Caucasians who are "experiencing" the trials and tribulations of life.

(excuse the trailer park comment)

I think that race/culture can be a factor as well.
Regardless of income, race can still be an advantage in certain situations.

She is 100% right with that statement.  Her life experience has prepared her to make better decisions on a broad range of issues.  It is extremely difficult for someone with limited life experiences to make good decisions that will impact pretty much all of us.  If you've only been rich how in the heck are you going to understand how the poor survive?  If you've been rich and poor you can see both sides.

It reminds me of when Sickel and Ebert reviewed the movie 'Waiting to Exhale' and said it was unrealistic because Black women don't have money like that.... and when they said the scene in What's Love got to do with it where she ran to the hotel and told the manger she only had $X.0 cents in her wallet was unrealistic..........  MAN - I got some memorable life moments where I know EXACTLY how many $ and cents I had.....

different folk, different world view based on vantage point.....
