BM Ecouragement (Yes, this is a 'bodily function' post!)

I'm talking laxatives folks so get out now if you must.  What kind of laxitive is safe after rny?

I've used a laxative once in my adult life on the evening before wls.  I can't remember ever using one as a kid.  I'm a newbie to the world of 'bm encouragement'.

I feel like I need a good clean out.  I'm not sick or constipated, but lately I feel like I'm not quite emptying out.  Post op I've gone from regularly scheduled daily bm down to sporadic 'bm lite'.   I know I eat a lot less, still I'd like to encourage anything that's just hanging out to leave without a totally disgusting experience.

Any reccomendations?

MY WLS used to recommend Magnesium Citrate--the liquid lax...I had to do it before surgery...I hate it so I don't mess with it much.....I take Phillips MOM capsules.....sometimes I will Dulcolax.....but for me, Smooth Move tea works the best....it's just freaking gross and it does give me terrible stomach cramps....

soooo....when it is imperative.....~looking around and ducking~ I take internal flush at night....drink water, water, water, and COFFEE the next day and VIOLA!

That's an immediate fix....for long term.....if you can stand it....add some fiber to  your water....drink plenty of water....and some warm diluted apple juice....this should keep you regular.

Nothing works better than a good dose of natural fiber. Try eating an apple or a few prunes and drink a liter of water.  You're guaranteed to errr ahhh . . . move.  For a good, good emptying out mix @ 2 teaspoons of Grey Celtic Sea Salt in 4 cups of room temperature distilled water.  Stir well and drink.  Stay close to the bathroom.  You'll be clean in an hour or so.  If you don't drink it fairly quickly, stir it again before finishing it off.  You'll want to avoid a mouth full of salt at the end

My Doc recommends Miralax.......because it makes your body work they way it naturally is suppose to. Its the only thing that works for me and it doesn't cause any cramping

Thanks all.

Made a list of your suggestions and rated everything from least to most gross outcome.  Been to the store where the pickin's were slim (Damn this backwards country ass town!).

Man, since upping my calcium I have been having difficulties. I added another stool softener in my vit rotation and as soon as I feel some firmness I take a dose of Miralax in some water.

When I was extremely constipated the liquid mag citrate helped tremendously!
