Whats the difference in getting a relaxer and getting a texturizer?

I am not a hairdresser however I am related to several, lol. I am also a chemist by training so I can tell you that chemically there is little difference between a texturizer and a realxer.  I believe the processing time and maybe the concentration of the active base is different, meaning you may process for a shorter amount of time and have a "looser curl pattern" or a longer time and have "straight" hair.  Hope this helps.

I was two steps from a relaxer this weekend and I have been natural for 3+ years now...just fell out of love with the way it looked.  Working currently on getting that ole lovin feelin back!

Its been 3 months since I last had a relaxer. I am trying to go natural with out cutting my hair. I love the natural look.  Any suggestions on how I can survive the summer. I'm trying my best to get past this hard stage.

I am going to tell you I cheated during my "grow out" period and weaved it for over a year.  Did the BC and then weaved it till I was both too broke and too frustrated to do it anymore, lol.

Braids or a weave work but also try http://www.nappturality.com/, there are plenty of forums with people's ideas on how to transition.

I will have to check that out. I am thinking about trying braids, I have never had my hair braided, well not since I was a child.

Hey there. I went to school for hair and i learned that a texturizer is something to like soften your hair & a relaxer straightens the hair. So if you have been natural for 3 months, a texurizer should be or do fine if you have alot of new growth. BUT, what most people do though is cut any relaxer they have mostly the ends, then all they have is their natural new growth & thats when they texurize it. I KNOW good & well you aint bout to cut all that pretty hair you got So my advice to you is to either get it braided or use a hot comb every now & then.  Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hey girl!!!! I have been at this point a few times and around month 4 I break.  I don't really have a lot of new growth, maybe about 2.5 - 3 inches, if that.  I'm not going to cut it, that husband of mine would have a fit.  I'm looking for someone to braid it now, not sure how much I am going to like braids but we will see.

I texturized for years.  It allowed me to let my naps be, but when I wanted a straight look it was easier and lasted longer with less product.
