My 'donnieboy' moment.........

Yall - I realized yesterday.... I ain't ready for babygirl to grow up.  She's 9, has always been a tomboy.  You put anything pink NEAR her - she curls up like Superman when Lex Luther breaks out the kryptonite rock..............

So, yesterday I am chilling, just finished fixing plates full of Sunday dinner so good the lil nicca took a nap after!  LOL  Then got up,  I took down her cornrows and put a perm in her hair and THAT was some major work.  So after her hair is dry, she asks if she can 'play' with it and comb and bru****  Aiight - it's your wig, go for what you know - I say.

She comes in my room about 1 hr later, I am laying down, relaxing.  She asks if we can 'talk'.  My spidey sense tingles cause that's our code for she needs serious attention and I gotta mute the TV.  Aiight, babgirl - what's on your mind?

"Can you make me more 'girly'?"  Huh?  Whatchoo mean?
"You know, skinny and beautiful like you"  Huh?  Whatchoo mean?
"Well - there's this boy I like, actually TWO boys and I wanna look 'girly'"

I quickly get up out of the bed, go to the kitchen and grab a wine glass, my Kimoman Plum wine AND the White Gold Vodka.  I need a big azz ****tail.  I can't believe I just heard what I heard.

So what does 'girly' mean?  I asked babygirl.  She says she wants to be skinnier and wear different clothes so she doesn't look so boy-like.  But boylike IS cute, I say - knowing full well it ain't but I want to keep her out of the midnight thoughts of any lil pre-pube lil nicca out there - I ain't ready to start killin mofos yet.  I ask her if that means she wants to wear dresses and skirts - she says NO mama!!!

My heart smiles, I relax in one big breath - but maybe that's the vodka kickin in.  She just wants to look 'girly' she says.  We talk some more and settle on 1) her getting new earrings since she snatched out the last ones and I told her I wouldn't buy another mudda****** pair until she got some sense 2) she's going to lighten up her color choices - all that black and dark blue ain't 'girly' - but she holds the line at NO PINK...... more smiling and relaxing on my end.

While she's talking to me, she doing that girly tuck-your-hair-behind-your-ear thing and batting her eyes - I see a glimpse of something that's coming faster than I thought and I realize I am NOT ready - she's TOO cute, she TOO smart - these bustas out here ain't good enough for my lil girl yall!!!!  And ain't enough vodka in the world to calm this new unsettled feeling I have - I'll be watching her different now, talking about her day at school more, listening in for clues and dreading even more now hearing the 'Can we talk for a minute?' than I used to........... Good thing I found a good cheap brand of vodka - I might qualify for volume discounts in another two years.  I gotta take her to get her hair cornrowed today and this is the first time in over a year she is breaking line and getting it done differently........ "I want to wear it down so I can be cute"

I don't have kids but have 5 nephews in my household and I honestly feel that gnawing feeling of puberty with them as well. Trust me it wouldn't be any different if she was a little boy..all I keep thinking is one of these lil hoodrats gonna get pregnant cause they think we got money lol.

If you like, I can let you have my oldest to teach her the ropes.  She goes to visit her probation officer in about an hr....after that, she's free for the rest of the day!  ~roll eyes, suck teeth~

My Kendra is a different breed.  I will take worrying about little boys ANYDAY over some of the stuff my child has gotten into.  You don't even want to know about her!  Count your blessings, dear.

Get ready...this is only the beginning! LOL

A word of advice.....find something besides that wine and vodka to ease your nerves on the matter cause you will turn into an alchoholic or go broke trying to keep it together with that.
Learn how to go with the flow.  As long as things aren't  life-threatening, try to keep an even keel.  Valuable life lessons can be learned by both of you.

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate. - Oprah Winfrey
