Okay, I am 2 months post op and finally decided even though this tool is "going" to do the work for me during my honeymoon phase, it aint nice to let it have to do it all. So I hauled my lazy ass to the gym on Friday, signed up, and got a trainer for 2x a week. When I do things I make sure to do it right the first time round.

Now my question....what is a good meal for pre work-out. He already told me I need to up my calories to at least 1000 and drink a protein shake after workout. But whats good for the before-hand. Any suggestions?

I'm not a big fan of eating just before a workout.  With my routine, I just increase my calories of my breakfast and lunch on the days I workout - I don't necessarily eat right before working out.  But the shake immediately afterward is key.

Oh ok. My trainer said it is imperative that I eat before training and after or it makes no sense.

Hmmmm - unless the trainer has worked extensively with post WLS folk - the nutrition stuff you gotta weigh out.  Because of your surgery, your body is going to do its own thing regarding how you eat.  I personally couldn't move the way I needed to with food on my stomach - I would usually eat about 2 or so hours before working out, giving me time to digest and be 'clear' when I worked out- otherwise I was uncomfortable trying to work out hard on a stomach full or with food in it.

Try it both ways and see what works best for you and KUDOS on getting a trainer!  Take good notes and keep up your routine even after you stop working with them - you will see faster results and you will feel great the more you work out!

He has helped prior WLS patients, I wouldn't say extensive though. I know I have to weigh it, I'm just a lil lost so thanks for your advice. I am going to try it both ways. I work out at 6:15am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This morning I had one of the 45 cal slices of bread with 1.5 tbsp of peanut butter and ate 3/4 of it. I didn't feel heavy or anything and I think it was good cause by the end I was starving (I even ended up buying a protein shake at the gym cause I was sooo hungry). According to him though I burned roughly 1500 calories in the hour I was with him. Right now I am dreading Wednesday cause my thighs feel like silly putty and my arms like lead blocks. Wanna give advice on how to relieve these aches and pains?

ummmm did you speak to your surgeon or NUT about that 1000 calories?? there is no way in hell I could eat 1000 calories at 2 months out nor did my NUT suggest it.....I'm with MM if this trainer isn't WLS certified use him/her for the workout piece but consult your surgery team for the nutrional aspect....

Good luck and I wish my lazy ass would have gotten a trainer at 2 months post op!

Yes, according to their guideplan I am supposed to be at 800-1000 calories, pref on the higher end. But then again, I went home from the hospital of soft/pureed foods so their program is a little acclerated.

Thank you for the wishes. I only did it cause I hit a stall and got agrivated. I like to see results and boy did I. I broke my stall on my own and was back to losing 1lb a day. Well today I lost 3 lol.

I don't eat before my work out anymore.  I do aerobics upon waking before breakfast with a shake immediatly afterwards, followed by my highest carb meal of the day.

I have read that you burn fat more efficiently this way (body building sites).  I don't know how true that is, but the changed helped me out of a 58 day, weight going up and down cycle with no wl progress at all.

Okay. I don't eat carby meals. I just try to balance throughout the day. I did have a protein shake after the workout, bought from the gym cause I was starving after (it was made with my regular isopure powder but they actually made it taste good with fruit pieces and a little yogurt. It was yummo.
