Are you cheating if you enter a weight loss competition against 'regular' folk?

I saw a post on another board about being on 'the Biggest Loser' if you have had WLS - they don't disqualify folk based on that - BUT - it got me thinking that it's kinda cheating to be in on that competition with folk that have not had WLS - if I did compete, I think WLS would give me an unfair advantage.

NOT saying that those who have WLS have it easy - but when it comes to avoiding binging, feeling full faster, etc - there's no doubt for me that I have a tool that would make me more sucessful than someone who's going it alone and has the same food issues I do.

your thoughts, fam????

I think it depends on how far out you are.  If you're still in the honeymoon stage....yes, that's an unfair advantage.  If you're like me and over two years out, I don't see it as cheating.  I know *for me* getting the scale to move is hard as hell.  Granted, I do have the tool, but I still feel it's a struggle.

Someone on BAF did this at her job a while back and I remember her posting this question.  It got a mixed response then.  Curious to see how folks view this one.

Yeah... what Kim said.

That's crazy! I think that is totally unfair. I thought the basis of the show was for folks to do it naturally without the advantage of WLS. I believe someone that has had WLS would have an edge on the others. If they are taking us WLS patients then I'm going to sign up!! I need a trainer to help me with these thighs and bat wings!

I had to think about that for myself. There was a "Biggest Loser" competition at my job earlier this year. The pot grew to almost $2500, everybody put in $50 and winner take all. I didn't sign up although it was tempting. Noone at work knows about my surgery, but if it ever came out one day and I had won the money I'd look like

Too funny!! My husband had a similar contest going at his job and they said anyone could compete....including WLS folks. Then, once the lady won everyone was talking about her. Oh well, I was mad at my hubby for entering when he had no chance......$60 down the toilet.

I'm in the same boat with Shani, about twice a year folks in another dept. do a biggest looser and the pot gets BIG and it was tempting especially since it started right around the time of my surgery but I knew that it would be unfair because I would surely have won.  Past winners have won the pot with only 35lbs lost.  I would be counting my coins now.
But if anyone ever found out about my surgery I would have a mob waiting for me after work. lmao
Especially since the one person I told is steadily gaining weight and seems like she's itching to give everyone an explanation of why I lost weight and she didn't......*****!

what if the person who had wls had a ridiculously low metabolism rate, thyroid problems, and other health issues that made weight loss extremely difficult.....

and

the other person was not only "regular" but had always been able to eat whatever they wanted for as long as they wanted without gaining an ounce.....until they hit 40 and then they gained 30 pounds.....

would either person have an unfair advantage or would it be an even competition?

VSG on 12/20/07 with
your competitors' stomach is the size of a cantalopue.  you altered yours to make it the size of an orange.  yes it's cheating, no matter what other conditions the other person has, their stomach won't ever be the size of yours.

I hear you.  I'm forever *****ing about weight gain since 5-6 weeks post op (See 99% of my posts, lol.).

It took 58 days to gain and then re loose 14 lbs.  And yes I do stick to plan and exercise.  People like this, even as honeymooners don't have an unfair advantage.
