Having a revision june 30, 2009- alittle scared

Best wishes and congratulations on your revision.  I am a revision from a 1987 VBG.  My only regret is that I let shame, self- blame and low self-esteem stop me from pursuing the revision sooner.  I lost about 40 pounds before the surgery and a little over 50 pounds since the surgery 3 months ago.  There were no complications and though I had to have my RNY open due to scar tissue from the VBG they used the same opening and so I still have the same scar I've had for 20 years now - no big deal.

This is one of the better things I've ever done for myself.  No regrets so far...

Peace,

Rhonda

I am praying you have a smooth procedure and an uneventful recovery. I moving over to make room for you on the losers bench. I had a revision from a VBG from 22 years ago on 1/29/09. I had a rather rough ride but i finally seem to be on my way. i have lost 85 lbs so far. I still have issues with my taste buds but that seems to be slowly resolving. All the best for you

Thank you for saving room for me on the bench.  Look forward to sitting there and enjoying the view.

I was day dreaming of being thin and getting rid of all my clothes.  I think the smallest size I have in my house is a 22.  Don't know when I will get into them, but it will be a great joy when I do.  After the 22's I will have to buy more clothes....not complaining for sure...

I'm also glad to hear you are doing better now.  The taste buds thing, is that something rare or something I should expect with my surgery.  I don't remember much from the first one I  had.

Thanks

Lillian

I only lost 50 lbs when I had the VBG. It was a hot mess and i wound up back in the hospital for an additional 11 days. After that I came home and like you said no support or anything. So 20 years later (and a whole lot of throwing up) I fluctuated between 350-400 lbs. I don't even remember wearing 22's. I think 24 is the smallest I ever remember in my adult life. My clothes are getting too big. My "drawers" are really getting to be a bit much LOL I will break down and buy new clothes (mostly underwear) after my next Dr. appt on 7/17.
I had a different revision surgery (the DS) than you are having. I think the taste bud pyscho trip is something DS patients go through. I have heard it referred to as "the broke tongue syndrome". Textures weird me out also. It is slowly resolving. Extreme taste seems to be returning first. Bitter, salty, sour etc. I find I am craving salty and hot. Also garlic is a must in my pantry now. It is frustrating because i think I want something.  I fix it and it doesn't taste like I " remember" it should. Bacon is something people rave about. It tastes like old wood to me. I used to be able to eat a pound at one sitting. sigh Anyway the weight loss is helping make me feel better. It would be a shame to go through all of this and not have anything to show for it. All the best to you. Looking forward to hearing about your progress. I am sorry i did not know i could have done this sooner.
