Dumping concern

I know what dumping syndrome is and how to detect it.  However, I am not sure if I am one who dumps. I really do want to find out though...but am way to afraid to test anything that might bring it on.

*Before I am chewed to pieces, I have a reason. I want to test it because I am afraid to go back to school in central PA where there are no labels to know sugar content and end up dumping in like the packed cafeteria. Therefore if I know before hand how much sugar I can generally handle, I think I can gauge what will be safe and what won't be (maybe from just a finger taste test). But don't get me wrong, I don't plan on indulging in ice cream or cake but meat with sauces scare me or certain salad dressings or even something like raisins or cranberries.

So my question is basically, what are some ways...if anyone can think of any...that I can test my sugar tolerance without ending up in a coma. I asked my nut and she only suggested trying things with higher amounts of sugar until I find my threshold. But I still don't get how to do this. Any help is appreciated.

Instead of testing yourself, stick to a plan.  You're not far enough out to say you're truly bored so stick to meat, veggies and complex carb starches and don't eat anything but!  Grilled meats, salads and other veggies, whole wheat breads or crackers.  Fresh fruit when you come across it.

Lots of water and that's about it.

I am not bored with my meals yet because I keep variety in them. My problem is I am going back to school end of August and would rather be safe than sorry knowing how much sugar I can handle and if I am a dumper or not. It scares me that it is possible to dump on fruit, sauces, or even peanut butter...something like that I would like to know before I make a fool of myself in front of half my school.

Ok - I get you now.  Unfortunately - hate to be the one to tell you that even if you test, things will still change and something that 'clears' your testing now will have you foaming at the mouth just weeks later.

My best advice, listen to your body and eat the things you know are on plan - don't eat too many different things at one time so that if you do get sick, you know what did it and always plan to eat slowly - even things that don't cause problems can be an issue if you eat too fast.

Good luck!

I know. Tht scares me too, hopefully I will stay consistent. Thankfully I am a slow eater, even pre-op it would take me like 30 minutes to eat a regular sandwhich.

But I am proud of myself. They finally opened a Vitamin Shoppe near my house this week and I was in there today buying more protein (I stopped drinking any about 2 weeks ago cuz it was makin me gag). I got some of the new whey protein bullet shots 42g. I will drink half in the am and other in pm. I know its not the best protein available but any is better than none and it taste pretty good. How do you stomach the Oh Yeah drinks. It is too thick and chocolately to me.

LOL - how do YOU stomach the bullets cause they make ME gag!  LMAO - those are a perfect example of how things change - early on from about 9mos to about 1.5 years out - I LIVED on those bullets - 2 a day and working out - I dropped weight like bricks!  Then my tastes turned and I could drink one to SAVE MY LIFE!!!!  But I can suck down an Oh Yeah in less than 30 min.

You just gotta find what works, and be prepared to change and continue to find what's working as you evolve.
