Low and I haven't even started yet!!
So I'm doing all of my pre-op surgery prep work things....Pysch eval is tomorrow!! Yay me!!
But yesterday I get home and welcomed by my labs results.....
My protein level is low....he wants me to have 60-100 grams a protein a day now!
My vitamin D is still low, mind you I've been taking 50,000 units a week still low
*I have to continue to take my multi-vitamin but add calcium and go back to taking the 50,000units of D
My B12 was low, surgeon said I need to call my primary because I will need to get shots or the nasal b12(Nascobal)
But wait....... I did have something that was high my good ol Triglycerides!!!
I guess I wasn't expecting to have that many defiencies yet, but at least it prepares me for the road ahead.
Thank yall for listening I guess this would be considered reading but you get what I mean!!

Good thing you know now!!! My mama always used to tell me "Forewarned is ForeARMED - don't be standing around when the enemy comes with your pants around your ankles!"
Yea - my mama is strange.
anyhoo - are you going to do protein shakes to get your grams per day in? what's your protein plan?

Post op - you will need shakes and supplements.
My suggestion is that you check out www.fitday.com or www.mydailyplate.com as a free food tracker to count your protein grams each day - this will let you 'see' your plan. I typically put all the food I INTEND to eat for the day in, then alter it if I change up.
Protein rich foods are chicken and turkey - this is the most bang for the buck, but do fish as well - the Omega 3 is very good for you. Also, dairy products such as cottage cheese, yogurt, milk (skim) are great too.
shoot for 3 meals and 2 snacks a day - calorie count about 1800 - 2000 calories - as a pre-op, this should keep you full. but if you can, book an appt with a nutritionist to be sure you have the balance you need.
Oh yea - and 80 oz of water a day!!!!

Hi Kells!
People get overwhelmed with the sudden changes (first few weeks out of surgery ) while the body is in recovery and making wild hormonal adjustments & I think it makes it harder to get into a routine of it all because if it.
Everyone thinks they are prepared before surgery, but many nearly panic regarding what to eat, getting in protein, taking supplements, early on. Here's where you have an advantage.
I agree with those above; use this valuable wait time to learn to balance and track your protein, D, & cholesterol numbers and get into the DAILY practice of downing the supplements and logging your food intake and exercise. You can already be accustomed to much of this when the time comes. A blessing in disguise!

You'd be surprised hw many obese people hae major deficiencies. A lot of calories don't mean balanced nutrition.
My surgeon gets you on protein shakes and a pre, pre-op diet upon approval with double doses of vits, calcium and other supplements.
You've got good guidance here (as always with the BAF). Upping that protein, reducing carbs to shrink the liver, starting to up the water intake etc will help your body better endure the trauma of surgery and heal faster.
Now you know, time for action!
