Lap vs Gastric? And would you do it all again?
Hello, I pray that you make the decision that is best for you. Here are my responses to your questions...
a) What motivated you to choose the option you chose? I was hoping to lose the weight at a slower rate which would hopefully allow my skin to shrink along with it (most of it did shrink nicely but I do have the fat pockets that will be addressed soon) and to hopefully not lose my hair (I haven't lost any hair, it has actually grown longer).
b) If you had it to do all over again, would you stick with your original option or went the other route? For the first time this year, I have questioned if I should have chose RNY. This is only because I am not at goal and to honest, it is my own fault. However, I believe if given the choice to do it all over again, I would choose the band.
c) Banders, how frequently do you have to get fills? Do you think gastric would've been less expensive in the long run since you have to get fills? If you have had to pay out of pocket for fills, how much is it generally? Each bandster will be different as far as fills. I lost the majority of my weight(62 pounds in 7 months) after just 3 fills at 2.0 cc's. Fills are only $35 for me and some people are only $10. Cash pay fills usually start at $100 and go up.
d) What complications, if any, have either surgery caused you? I have not hady any complications other than being too tight at one point which lead me to the soft food syndrome (any food that will slide down easily). Prior to being too tight, I would not eat anything from the soft food list. After 2 months of being too tight, I was slightly unfilled, however, I had the taste of those evil carbs in my mouth and it is hard to let go.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown
I chose the RNY for a number of reasons. First of all, I had always heard about it and it worked for most people that I knew had it. Second of all, at 346 at the time (363 at surgery), I am type II diabetics, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, poor circulation, urine incontinence, low self esteem, and most important I opted to die if I could not get this weight off quick. All my doctors were supportive and waiting for me to make the decision. Hmm I have to admit, I did little research sleeve or any other proceedures. I did not want to cut out any part of my stomach and that was all I reasearched. however I felt the lap would have given me the freedom to not get fills and eat what I want with ease. No fills no restriction. Did not want to play around with my life. I am learning displine and structure with my RNY. So no, I would not have changed.
