Upper GI & Barium - How bad is it?

I go in the morning to have all my labs done.

I'm worried about this upper GI - I can't swallow ANYTHING thick. They did say I needed to try the tihck barium prior to doing the thinner.  Also, I was reading online that the Upper GI could actually diagnose this issue.

How bad is it?  Don't sugarcoat, please.

That's what I'm worried about - a milkshake, yogurt, etc makes me gag.  Thck won't go down, and it won't go up, either...

I have had it dont and too me it wasnt all that bad...the stuff is kinda chalky...kind of like maloxx

Never done Maalox... Pepto?  Yeah... was so glad when pills came out!

go figure I had one done today, it was awful....... They have you put these crystals in your mouth followed by 30ml of water, than here comes that d*m barrium, I 'm like I gotta drink all of that..... yes I would say I drank 350ml of that stuff..... grl the d*m table was so little, and cold, so while there taking pics she would count and on three i would swallow, nxt, I'm standing upright for the first test , than she starts to bend the machine backwords with me on the d*m thing. I'm shocked it could flip back like that..... anyway she lays me flat, and takes more pics... and tells me to do a 360 to mix the barrium.. how my big ass go do that... but i got done with it....I felt very full after it, but the tell you to drnk lots of liquid after this test to get the barrium out your system.....sorry it's so long......

A barium for an upper GI...is this for post op cause the only GI I remember was pre-op and no barium just IV.

Oh I think I know. New post-op and checking for leaks. That stuff was horrible. Thankfully I had a nice woman do me. I took 3 sips told her I couldnt drink no more or I would hurl and they did the test on what I had injested. Took a lil longer, was a bit more uncomfortable but I didn't have to drink that posion.

Now the barium I had to drink for my CAT scan that was bad. They give me this 16 oz jug of grossness and expect me to drink it in 30 min. I told them no no thats not healthy and againt my surgeons no more than 8 oz an hour rule. Turns out its okay in this situation but I barely got 8 oz down before they did it.

So as you can tell I am very stubborn when it comes to barium. I ain't do more than I gotta, at least not without a fight. Stuff taste too bad.

Well, after I had a panic attack, it wasn't so bad.  That mugga fuggin' cup they gave me was HEAVY - like friggin' lead!!  That's when I freaked.  The byotch radiologist walked out, called my surgeon and said you're gonna have to go talk to him.  The tech was sweet as peaches.  I calmed down and prayed (now, had my dumb butt went in there prayed up, it could've been avoided).

I got  it down  - chugged.  It did leak out my mouth, but got it.  The fizzy wasn't bad - it was like hot soda to me.  The thinner barium was just 3 sips - I did 4.  I didn't gag - not until it was down for like 2 minutes, but I got thru it.  That table flip was kicks.


Now, from  my research online, I must take a laxative and look forward to albino turds.
