I HAVE BEEN RELEASED BY THE DOC TO START LIFTING WEIGHTS . WHEN DID YOU ALL START DID YOU GET DOWN PRETTY GOOD  BEFORE STARTING . I DONT WANT TO ENTERRUPT THE SCALE AND WHEN I WORK OUT I WANT AN EXTRA PUSH SO WHEN CAN I TAKE SOMETHING TO SPEED UP THE METABOLISM. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER . MAY YOU ALL HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY.

I started with a personal trainer as soon as I got clearance - I found a trainer that worked with other WLS patients.

Once you start working out - start taking measurements - screw the scale.  You will appear to stall but you will be building muscle and as a man - THAT'S what's important, right?  Unless you looking to do a Too Wong Foo type thang.......

LOL!!! 

ETA: And don't worry about speeding up your metabolism - the surgery will take care of that for you for the next 18 months - don't jack up that work with trying to make your own plans.

for me it wasnt long before i got clearance from the doctor to work out... i went to Gold's Gym and have been working with a trainer 3days a week... 1 day with the trainer the other 2 days i am on my own... my surgeon really pushed cardio on me moreso than weight lifting...

as for the metabolism, my metabolism has been sluggish and undeactive for years.. my doctor increased my Synthroidmedication and the weight started falling off and my energy increased significantly.

In my opinion, I would say wait until you hit an actual stall in your losing and then head on over to the gym to start lifting weights.  That way you can start toning your body and the need for extra protein after your workouts will help kick your metabolism back into high gear.  That's what I did and so far the results ain't bad.

I got seriously on a routine about 3 weeks ago.  I waited til I could get adequate daily protein in.  I cardio three days and weight lift two per week.  I was really shocked when I got on the weights because I feel great in the gym but there is a REALLY noticable difference in strength.  It's like I'm starting over from years ago.  But just the last three weeks have brought some strength back but not like pre surgery.  But I was thinking that I might change my strategy anyway.  I going for the lean and tone look rather than the thicker muscular look.  Want to build the guns and shoulders up though.  Focusing on cardio and lighter weights/higher reps.

As for suppliments, I don't know what a good time frame to start with those.  I got some Ripped Fuel, Hydroxicut, and fat burners from prior to surgery but not sure if I can take them now or not.  Worried how they might affect liver and heart function at this point.  I figure maybe about 6 months out, I might get on the ripped fuel to see how it works.

Ayy yo,

Word to the wise, my brotha, they took that Hydroxicut stuff off of the market about two months back, because it was straight killing folks, via liver damage.  If you got any left, I suggest you dump it fast and switch to something else.

Just my $0.02.
