Hopefully I will never be involved with such a knucklehead.....but his azz would have to change, especially since it probably took me some time to get ready.  I would not be making alternate plans for the Red Lobster because he cant be versatile.

I am so with you ladies on the head scarf in public thing I so hate to see that ( with the exception of the women who wear clean and fashionably wrapped scarves VS the aunt Jamima way )  I also hate to see the guys with the doo rags on in public such a turn off to me.

I like a man that knows how to dress sharp (suit & tie, tux..etc.) when the occasion calls for it but also can dress casually in the latest GQ fashion.  The ONLY thing that I can't take...is when the shirts hang down right above the knees, are excessively oversized or seeing those dayum underwears because the pants are literally dragging the ground.  I see middle aged men doing this and I just don't get it. As a person who used to have no style whatsoever, I know that its really is a matter of knowing how to put items together...I don't think that you need to break the bank to dress nice.

Say the two of you are about to go out and he knows that the place you're treating him to requires that as a man he must wear a jacket and the restaurant also expects that you look a certain way.
When he gets to your place to pick you up and he's wearing a pair of designer carpenter jeans, an oversized State Property shirt, and a pair of brown of Timberlands, would you ask him to change?  Why or Why not?

I would not ask him to change....but I would let him know the dress requirements of the place we were planning to go.  I am so flexible...and would not mind going somewhere else as long as we both had a good time. I don't have anything against Timberlands or State Property...as long as the shirt is tucked in and the draws aren't showing.

ETA:

I just caught the "he know" that the place requires him to dress a certain way. Well...I might have a little issue now...because it seems that he might have a rebellious streak going on. I am not trying to go any where and have a scene created. Not trying to be embarrassed or turned around at the door. Not trying to have him get his chest up because he feels disrespected over something that was obviously preventable. This might be a sign of bigger issues.

Iif a restaurant states that their patrons should wear a dinner jacket and he shows up looking like a grown man in HipHop gear, then they are going to refuse him service.

Yes, I just saw that and edited my message before seeing this reply....that is also why I would suggest we go somewhere else.

Totally get what you're saying. I have a lot of male friends now that have 100 pairs of sneakers and no official dress shoes. They wear thier soft bottom Pradas, Cole Hahns, or something like that if they have to go somehwere a lil nicer. I remember when one of the clubs here, Zanzibar forbid jeans, man you couldn't get some folk to put on some slacks to have a good time. Last funeral I went to people had jeans on in the church, come ON!!

I think people are way too caasual at certain functions. My husband and I love going out and getting dressed up. Shoot, you spent $160 on 2 tickets to see a show and the best thing you can find in your closet is a white T and Nike boots? I just shake my head.
