Have any of you seen the new way they are doing the gastric bypass surgery?? Rather than doing it with the small incisions laproscopic, they are going down the throat. It hasn't made to US yet but the recovery time is much faster of coarse less complications.

Hey Lady

I've seen two: The Toga & Gastric Balloon.

Here's what I think:

The Toga is in clinical trials in the US and * I * feel that 12 months study isn't enough time. I'm hearing good things about it, but more time is needed (say 3+ years) to see if it's safe.

The Gastric Balloon is also in clinical studies. I'm still scratching my head on this one. My niece is in the program, however, she wasn't picked to receive it. A friend of mine also participated and was picked. I've been hearing complaints such as constant nausea, vomiting...the list goes on. She's basically starving herself and is reluctant to tell them to remove it. This procedure is TEMPORARY and the balloon is pulled after six months.

A member from BAF is in the TOGA clinical trials. She's not on here much but I hope she's doing well.

I've heard of it but I don't believe that it's a bypass, they only staple the stomach from the inside.

I waited nearly a decade to take the plunge hoping for something less invasive.  With lap surgery being common place now, I took the plunge.

Damn, if I'd only waited another ten years!
