Mind Bending Monday - A friend of mine had THAT, and....

I did not advertise it....only a select number of people know...AND I warned my mother to NOT be spreading my business all over town.  The ones that know...do not say too much. I don't take this as a sign of support or criticism. I am just happy they don't say anything if they don't have any thing positive to say.

As for the woman, I think you handled it very nicely....now all I want to know is whether you tied her shoe laces together when she was not looking? Come on give it up...you did something.  Did you stick your finger up inside your clinched fist or say FUGG YOU....real loud inside your head or make a call on your cell phone while she was still . Tell it.

Nah.  I didn't rip her a new butt-hole, although I was very tempted to do so.  Besides I've found that the quicker you say something nice and not argue with them, they walk away a lot quicker.  But if you stay and defend your position, they aren't even listening to you anymore.  They are just taking mental notes while you flap your lips as to how angry you're getting so that they can run back and tell somebody, "I told that boy what I knew to be true and he got soooooo angry with me, cussed me out, and called me everything but a child of God.  But I don't know why he got so angry, I'm just trying to HELP him?..."

I was in the hospital last week and I let everybody that came into my room know that I had WLS. I didn't want any dumping issues and wanted them to know I could not take all kinds of meds. Anyway, this one tech came in and told me that her sister was having WLS on 06/08. She stated that her family was totally against it. But she is trying to be supportive. Her sister weighs 435 lbs. She thinks all she needs to do is diet and exercise. She has several co-mobidities and can barely walk. The concern the family has is that she might die during surgery. I told her that when I was almost 400 lbs. My concern was that if I continue to gain weight I would die from obesity...100% guarantee, and that I rather die trying to save my life than live a slow death. I explained to her that you are miserable if you weigh 435 lbs. and the best thing her and her family could do is be supportive or shut up. This is a hard and scary decision. It is life changing and right now all she needs is your support. After about 30 mintues she realize that I was not going to say what she wanted to hear.

The bottom line is that I work at this EVERY DAMN DAY. Some days are good and somedays are not so good. What other people see is work in progress. This is not the end. I have to refocus at least twice a week. Just so I dont become one of the "a friend of mine" story. I have won several battles in this obesity war. By no means do I think I have won the war. I am always 1 cheeto away from losing todays battle.

You told her right. However, I dont know if I would have been as nice

I have Acute Sciatica. I went in on Wednesday and was released last night. They wont release me to go back to wor****il next Monday. I begged to go home. However, I am still in pain and I think I should have stayed a few more days.

Thanks for asking

Man, I am so proud of you!!! You bridled it...kept it on the really-real...and still shut her arse down!

She showed you that she was ig'nant...and realized it, while staring you in the face trying to see how to get out of that mess.

Good for you!

This is the main reason that I don't share the fact that I had wls with most people. I don't have the patience to deal with people like that and I would surely speak my mind no matter who it was coming at me like that. I had a revision and with my first surgery I was much more open. I didn't really tell people until afterwards though. My own father never supported my decision and when I started to get sick from the lap-band he was quick to jump all over me with "I told you so, blah blah blah". He still doesn't know about the revision, I will probably never tell him. He should understand because both my parents have had problems with their weight for all of my life (not all of theirs but at least the last 30 years). I can't stand when someone who knows nothing about a subject wants to try to lecture you about it, like you aren't smart enough to have researched your decision before making it.
