Mind Bending Monday - A friend of mine had THAT, and....

Ayy yo,

This weekend I ran into an older aquaintence (a friend of my mother's, and about as old as she is too) who felt that she just had to inform me that I am in for the battle of my life because, as she put it, "A friend of mine had that surgery and they put back on all of their weight plus more...  Whew!  So YOU are gonna have problems down the line..." 

Rather than hit her up with a dose of my pimp-inspired profanity-laced hoodspeak and really make her nose-hairs curl up, which in turn would have caused my mom to jump all over my case as a result later, I just paused and said, "Everyday with this "tool" is a struggle.  If we are really mentally prepared and do what's right by this tool it will help us win the battle.  Not everyone is built or thinks the same way."

She just stared at me blankly like I had just explained the square root of pi, slightly frowned a bit, and said with a strong air of doubt, "I don't know..." 

You ever have one of those moments where somebody that does not know **** about this **** insists on telling you about this **** - and are as wrong as two left feet?

Speak on it., BAF.  What say you?

You know what they say about opinions, right?  Most of the people who have opinions about this thing here a)never even had to consider doing it and b)never did the research.  If I had a dollar for every horror story I've heard, I wouldn't have to sit at this daggone desk. 

Maybe you would have been better suited to have explain Pi to her. lol.

I agree with you on both A and B.  I wonder whether or not people don't support their loved ones so readily when it come to WLS?  I'm curious about that.

I believe that some people have an inherent need to put one person up on a pedestal only to watch them fall and say ,"I told you they'd fail" 

In my own family, a whole lot of people told me I was wasting my time.  I had "friends" give me a whole lot of horror stories ("I heard of someone who had the surgery and {fill in the blank with everything from regaining the weight to dying on the table}..."). 

To them, I say nothing and keep it moving.

That sounds like a plan.  Folks can be cruel and they will.

Man - LOL there are going to be PLENTY of mofos with PLENTY of stupid things to say.  Bottom line - today, WLS is something of a meat market and there are a fair amount of surgeons who do it JUST for the money and NOT for the success of the person, so you get horror stories of folk not doing what they should when they should or how they should.  I got told about a chick who stopped at Burger King on the WAY HOME from surgery and tried to chomp down a Whopper - ended up back in the hospital with complications.... DUH.... YA think????

Folk who know me know they can't come at me with the bull - cause they know I stay on the grind - and to tell me that, at going on 4 years Imma put back on 200lbs???!!!!  NICCA PLEASE - I WISH a mofo WOULD look me in the eye and say that **** - most of them mofos don't know what the inside of a gym looks like, much less the difference between the grip for a deadlift vs. overhead......

Exactly!  That's the exact type of **** I'm talking about.  People say stuff like that and expect that you are going to do that too.  Pure stupidity!

I've been battling lately within myself to resist the urge to "flip da fugg" out on folks for saying dumbass **** like she did.  She's lucky! 

I am going through this right now with my family. My aunt had this surgery 5 years ago so now her and my uncle (her husband) want to tell me everything that I am doing is wrong. Now if I was wrong I would I would cop to it but the things they are saying I am doing wrong are not wrong. They have no idea what they are talking about. First they told me I am eating the wrong things. Negative I am following my dr.s orders to a tee.  I tell them my dr. has me on a regular food diet now and I am to start reintroducing food as I can tolerate it. They had the nerve to ask me did my dr get his degree from an online school. The latest is I am not supposed to drink sugar free drinks or use splenda. I am just supposed to drink water. I do try and drink water but sometimes my pouch doesnt like it so in order to not get dehydrated I drink sugar free kool aid. Or hot tea with splenda. So now they are spreading it around town that I am going to fail at this wls because I just won't do right. That ****** me off because as I am watching everyone scarf down subs, pizza, cakes pies and everything else I havent even one time tried to indulge right along with everyone else. No matter how much I wanted to but I am not doing right by the surgery. wow ok.
