Just home from the Hospital...now what?

My surgery was on May 26, just getting home from the hospital today. I am soooo sore....wow!....my shoulder hurts, and it is uncomfortable to take a deep breath, especially on the left side.

Tomorrow is my first full day at home, so correct me if needed....I have to take all my vitamins, proteins, daily shot for 10 days....and all my other fluids....am I missing anything. I already know it is easier said than done.

Looking forward to suggestions/insights.

I am still a little nervous....especially since everything didn't go 100% without problems.

Hi I'm still pre-op so I'm not sure what you need to do but I wanted to wish you luck. My friend said that she had bad soulder pain after surgery because the gas that was used for surgery had traveled to one shoulder. Wishing you luck and wisdom
I'm on the road to GREATNESS you can join me but damn sure can't STOP Me !

Sounds like you are on the right track for life post-op! Congrats to you for making it to the losers bench. The boards are a great place for advice and support, so keep checking back and remember, no question is a dumb one, we've all been through it. Best of luck to you!

Hi Educateme

Welcome to the loser's bench and Congratulations on your new journey!

Some people do have shoulder pain after surgery, I didn't.
I would call my surgeon's ofc just to make them aware of
what's going on. If it's bad I would ask for something for pain.

Yes you do want to get in vitamins, protein and fluids but take it easy
so that you don't get overwhelmed, it will take a little time to get it all right
... sip, sip, sip.  Don't forget, sf popsicles can be part of your liquid intake.
Walk as much as you are able to.

What shots are you taking for 10 days?

Yes, I had the shoulder pain before I left the hospital, so they are fully aware, and told me that it should subside in a few days.  I also developed a hematoma on my stomach while I was there, so I had a longer stay in the hospital...joy joy!  But, I am getting through that.

My Dr. has me taking a drug called Lovenox, it is a once a day shot - prefilled that I have to give to myself for 10 days after surgery. To help eleviate blood clots.  I knew I hadn't heard of this from anyone else, so I figured it was just a requiremement from my DR. office.

My energy level was very low when I was a new post op.  Make sure you get plenty of rest and like the other posters said it is very important not to get dehydrated.  If you are able to get up and walk, that will help you regain your strength.

Take it one day at a time...trust me I am 9 weeks out and it does get better each day. Just relax take it easy...drink your fluids and you will be back to your old self (thinner of course) in no time.

Keep me posted!
