I probably won't get much of a response to this but I'm putting it out anyway. I'm six months out from surgery and just wanted to know if any of you go to support group meetings and how do you feel about them? Also, are you taking your vitamins? I personally do go to support group meetings and find them to be very helpful and keep me focused.
I attended a WLS seminar this past weekend in Galveston and they talked a lot about these two topics. The importance of support groups and taking your vitamins. You can find out a lot of information at support group meetings as well as meet new people. The things that you are struggling with, I guarantee that someone else has had that same issue and might have a solution or give you some ideas. There was one of the speakers that was not taking her vitamins and ended up with memory loss, having to get iron infusions on a regular basis. She was 5 years out from her revision surgery and thought she was doing great. She was feeling good and felt she was doing fine without the vitamins, but then started having health issues. She is still afraid to drive because she may forget how to get back home and also can't work because of the memory loss. Several other people spoke up about the same issues. I just wanted to stress the importance of doing these things especially if you had RNY bypass. After bypass surgery, we do not absorb vitamins from the food we eat. We all started this journey to improve our health, not make it worse. So, what do you think?

Jerry I agree 200%!

I have hosted several support group meetings and I give/receive support online.  For me too, the support tends to keep me accountable.  I love meeting new people....so I have overnight bag and will travel to make an event/support group meeting.

Yeah I go to support group meeting sponsored by the hospital I had my surgery at as well as an additional support group meeting that is really good from another group that welcomes people that didn't have surgery there.  I find it very helpful.  I also find lurking and posting on OH to be supportive also.

I don't do support groups at least the one's offered by my doctor.  When I want support or a reminder of what to do or a kick in the ass or whatever, I bring my tail RIGHCHERE to BAF.  I've met some wonderful people who have become my unofficial support group as well as my friends besides, my Dr's office is waayyy to far away to go to the weekly meetings.  When I worked near his office I went but not anymore.

As far as my vitamins go, I take them RELIGIOUSLY.  If I don't I get so tired that I can't function it's almost akin to dumping.  It's like my body is addicted to them.
I was once a mess!!  My mess is now my message!! WLS saves lives!!  I'm living proof!

I haven't attended a support group meeting in years but I have a great support system around me and online right here but I do take my vitamins faithfully.
