OT Question: Taking Advice
I have to admit that when I was younger, on some important stuff I did not heed (now and then) but I tended to listen to the people I trusted and stayed away from some BAD Stuff! Some would call Me an Old Spirit...had plenty of "Mother-Wit" and still do whenever I put this Education on the back burner when needed.
So, NOW, I'm more of a Listener, Heeder and Experiencer. As one gets older, you MUST be more eclectic because you must be able to Trust yourself and certain others as well as be able to take a risk (now and then).
ETA: I'm a True Scorpio, so I will always be a Risk Taker...they're just more calculated now.
Be Well, Live Well
I Am Most Excellent - Affirmed Only Of GOD.
I wish for You, what I pray for Myself: Wellness, Happiness and Success In ALL Things Good!
I know for Sure I Control: My Attitude and Effort, My Health and Happiness.
I'd say I have somewhat of a combo thing going on...funny I was more of a heeder as a youngster
Now in my older age I tend to rely on my gut, inner voice, heart or whatever one wants to call it...its the times that I don't listen is when a situation becomes a larger lesson to learn
Scropio huh? Lawd you know yawl crazy right....lol have great sex just crazy....LOL
3 criteria for me to seriously consider taking someone’s advice, especially on a serious matter.
- has my best interests at heart
- qualified (life experience, training, education, etc.)
- knows me well enough to anticipate at least some of my needs
If their advice is counter to what I’ve been thinking, I am open to listening to their rationale because they might see something that I overlooked. Sometimes I follow their advice, sometimes I don’t, depending on the cir****tances.
I do listen to other folks' opinions...because I know me...when I make my mind up I tend to flip on the blinders. I do not always take it, but I stash what is said into the mental rolodex. I know I am stubborn and so hearing a different opinion can be helpful when trying to make up my mind.
Girl my Daddy is no JOKE! He is very very wise and believed in allowing his children to go ahead and make our own mistakes without judgement...you would never hear "I didn't raise you that way" out of my parents mouths...they have always trusted (like I do) the life process
I have to ask though Lena...do you ever feel like you miss out on things because you listen to other people? Have you ever missed out on something not following your gut?
