OT Question: Taking Advice
Okay so I have been on lurk mode for a while lately and have been noticing a bunch of posts talking about subjects that I call matters of the heart...so this got me to wondering a about a few things
One being this....Does anyone REALLY take/heed advice? I remember a while back MM had a post about the best advice you have ever recieved, I am wondering if some of you even after hearing that advice did you still learn that lesson the "hard way".....Like lets say your homies warned you about someone you wanted to date, would go ahead and date them?....or if anytime someone gave you advice about something not to do...something you had already made your mind up to do would you not continue down the path anyway?
I know I will be the first to tell you that I am most def a person that has to learn by experience...some may call it hard headed but that is just me...lol I for one believe you can't tell a grown mofo anything, even if they ask (lawd I'm flashing back to a cyber brawl I had here on BAF...whewwww) okay let me focus.....lol
The one time I can actually remember heeding advice was when I was 15 years old....I pulled the "I'm going to kill myself" move with my daddy and I will never forget what he said.."When folks talk about killing themselves they really aren't serious about it..the ones that are serious just do it. Most of the time they only do it to make someone else feel bad or sorry for them...and I have to say Chelle if you kill yourself I won't feel bad nor sorry for you AT ALL because I know I have been the best person I can be for and to you, and that is all I can do....basically daughter I held up my end of the bargin in this relationship and if you decide to do it just know my life will go on without you"....needless to say I passed on killing myself not that I really was going to anyway but that was some real shiot though....lol My daddy was an extreme realist...now he done turned super holy man...lol
So again I ask, do you take and heed advice? Besides not wanting to pick up a crack pipe type situation do you REALLY learn from another person's mistakes?
In other words, if I **** up, it won't be because of me following someone else's advice, it will be on ME.
Folks sometimes have hidden agendas...for whatever reason. They may not have my best interests at heart. Not to say everyone is shady and out to get me, it's just that I feel no one knows ME like I do.
I won't have to blame anyone for my actions...good or bad, because I acted on my own.
