New Post-op Tip of The Day
Since Monday is Memorial Day and there will be a lot of cook-outs going on, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about this with the newbies. If you're very early out and still on liquids, then a cook-out may be too overwhelming. When I was in my liquids stage, just the smell of food made me nauseous and I couldn't put myself in those situations. If you are not bothered by the smell and sight of food then go socialize with your friends and take your shakes or whatever you're drinking. If you're eating mushy food, I would also suggest that you take your own food with you. If you're on solids, my first warning is that you still have a fat person's brain and you will want some of everything and you can't have everything. Remember that protein is what you need right now. I know that potato salad and baked beans are calling your name but those are carbs and if you are early out they may cause you to dump. Also remember that there is sugar in barbecue sauces although we don't eat enough food for it to make a difference, it could cause you have a reaction to the food, that could be the problem. Enjoy the cook-out but know that right now you have limitations but it won't always be this way and one day you will be able to eat like everyone else, just not as much. Have a great weekend !!!!!

Great tips, Neenaj!
More that 1 new/unfamiliar food in a day is GAMBLING, especially early out from surgery, and ESPECIALLY away from home. These fun gatherings are tempting by nature; so knowing tha****ch out for 'just a nibble of this or just try me some of that' temptations! You don't want to get miserable or all they way sick.
Food gatherings can be managed, if thought out ahead of time.
Stay SAFE this weekend in general, that includes staying COMPLIANT this weekend in specific!

I have my mind so trained that it does not bother me to go to a cook out.
I dont do any sauces, all of them have hidden carbs. I just come early enough to catch the hot coals and put my shrimp and chicken kabobs on. Instead of me looking at their plate, they are looking at my plate
