Just had RNY Bypass surgery on Wednesday and thank all of you for the support, prayers and ideas for my important day! I'm havin a lil complication which could turn into a big one which is GETTIN THESE DARN FLUIDS IN!!! Some of u definitely warned me of this possibility. My  situation is that the day of surgery I got my period along with it the cramps and bloating(sorry TMI once again) so after I went to recovery it was VERY hard for me to distinguish between pain with my pouch or menstrual cramps. I told this to ALLLL my docs who didn't seem too concerned since I was on IV at the time I was gettin more than enough in in addition to drinking. Anyhoo now that I'm home period has subsided and NOW I'm having minor discomfort when i drink..feels like cramping after I feel my fluids go down and then a need to burp sometimes. I'm thinkin gas and a tender pouch. According to the doc on call last night he just said its common and drink slower and smaller amounts which I'm doin n no change. SO.....
1. curious to know from ANYONE have u had this issue or one similar and if so what to do? ALSO....
2. what are the BEST things to drink/eat for the first two weeks? I have my list of broths popsicles, CIB, crystal lite, water, tomato soup, protein shakes, yogurts, and jellos. Anything to break the monotony would be wonderful! Thanks yous guys again I will post soon and get my profile poppin off wit sum pics too.

Have a good one!

congrats on your surgery.

your list of food/drinks is pretty complete for this phase. the popsicles held me down when i first came home.   the only thing you can do to break the monotony is drink different flavors of crystal lite and eat different flavors of soup.  unless you in the mood to experiment with putting different foods in the blender or trying baby food.

you've gotten some great suggestions.  Try changing the temperature of the fluids and that may help the cramping feeling.

Congrats on being home and on the loser bench.

I totaly undertand about the fluids and the need to burp after each swallow. What I found helped me was to load my cup with ice and with ever slow sip grab a ice cube it made the burping feeling go away.

As for the food, lucky you ,for having all those options. My surgeon will not let me have tomoto soup or yogurt so I suggest just trying things at different temps and different flavors

Hope this helps

Congrats on your recent surgery.  If you are experiencing gas...Gas X strips are the truth and they work fast.  Try not to drink the water so fast, and you may not want it so cold.  Sometimes the cold water affects the new pouch and you will get that discomfort.  Try drinking 1 oz every 15 minutes; that will keep you hydrated and you will be getting your fluids in.  SF popsicles were my best friend; also sf jello during my liquid stage when I came home.  Good luck!

Hi,  I'm glad you are doing well.  Welcome back home!!!! I am less than two weeks out.  I am having mostly the same choices as u at this point.  Breakfast I usually have yogurt, then a bottle of water usually with walmart brand drink mix.  Lunch-Protein shake 50g protein.  I mix the shake with 1% milk and water, Then I have another bottle of water, Dinner-cream soup, Then another bottle of water.  I believe that cover me.  I might also have a snack such as SF jello.  I'm good.  I have not had any problems, and not hungry.  Blessings on your journey, and we are in this together.  Take care

glad to hear that you are back home ....trying eating some finely crushed ice throughout the day......and yes the doc was right , you have to take baby sips of water i the begining...keep a bottle of water with you at all times and sip continously through out the day
