New to BAF and lovin' it!

Hi all I'm Tabby and I'm just so excited that I found BAF!  I know a couple of people that has had wls be none of them are black. During my research i found lots of sites that said black people don't lose the weight after wls as well as white people do. But after seeing all of you I feel tons better about my choice to use wls as my tool to become heathy.
I have decided on RNY and I'm just starting my journey. I am very sure I will need a shoulder to lean on during the process especially since i have decided not to tell my family and boyfriend until after the surgery. Well I guess that's not completely true I did tell two of my closest friends whom are like sisters to me and two coworkers that had RNY almost two years ago. I just feel my family will try to influence me too much and I want this to my decision.
So I hope you all will take me in will open arms and share your wisdom with me. I promise I will listen

Your not too far. My Dr. is in Bakersfield. I go down there all the time. Let me know if you ever come down south.

Welcome  to BAF !!   I did not tell my family until after I was about 1 month post-op. 

I flew out of state and back and they did not have a clue.    

They are good now :)

Thanx that's good to know. It's hard for me to do something my grandma doesn't want me to do, so I feel if she doesn't get the chance to tell me not to do it I'm not going against her wishes.
