Good Morning All:
These are questions I posted on the exercise forum, and I wanted to get those of you who run to tell me what you think. I recently began running (again ~sigh~ ) consistently about 1 week ago, and  I'm pretty psyched about it!! Yay Running!!!

My questions are:
1. Last week I ran/jogged really well, but this week it HURT so badly!!! Is this normal?
2. Should I just run through the pain? It isn't sharp pain like something is wrong in some organ; it's like muscle tissue pain, joint pain, lower back pain... I can run through soreness.... (I was sore during that first week.)
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer regarding this subject.... -sb

SB,

Its normal to be able to run really well one day and the next time not so great...lol.  I know for me 48 hours after I run I am sore like I had a hard workout.  Running puts a toll on the body so I would say this is normal.  It helps if you stretch well after running so that your muscles dont tighten up also I take Tylenol and use hot showers to help with any muscle issue.  Just remember listen to your body it will tell you when you can move on to the next level or when you need to back off.  Pay attention so that you dont hurt yourself.  Happy Running!!

Thanks April!
This is very helpful information.... I didn't stretch at all after running on the preceding days, and wow did I pay for it??!! The hot showers were immensely helpful, but I didn't give Tylenol a try.... thanks SO much for this info - I'm using it first thing in the morning... I have a 6:30 jog planned before church; I'll let you know how I came out!

Don't  let your head side line you because it will definately try.  Since I started running I have run through 3 knee sprangs and and if I would have let it I would have not run but I run through the pain cause I know after 2 - 3 minutes the pain will go away and I will feel fine.

Some days it's harder than others but that is just how it is.   I read a lot of runner forums now and there is a lot of body aches and pain associated with running but if you can run past the pain it's worth it.   That is if it's regular pain not something serious.

I have a very lazy brain so I have at times to force my body to make it do what my brain doesn't want it to do.

I was truly hoping you would answer (didn't wanna call you out or anything).... Girl, not only do I have a lazy brain, I also have a lazy a$$, hips, and thighs to match, lol! I too started reading some running sites, watched some videos, and they were SUPER helpful with breathing. Girl that first day my heart almost pumped out of my chest! Now that I have the breathing down, my lower back calls itself tripping... well, we'll see how it all works out. Thanks SO much... I'm not on as often as I used to be, but when I get a chance, I read your running posts.... it is SO very liberating!!! Thanks Lee... I'll keep you informed..... sb

Oh my goodness,  Wednesday I had such a horrible back ache when I started running and I really didn't think I would be able to run cause of the spasms but after about 5 minutes they stopped and I was able to keep going.

I'm glad you are reading the running forums, they have so much good info.  The first issue I was challenged with besides my knees was the breathing also.  Once you get your breathing pattern down it makes it so much easier.

I know you feel like your heart is going to explode now just take it slow,  you should feel like that but not to much so you may need to slow your pace if your going to fast but don't slow down to a pace where your not being challenged.

I have only been doing this for a little while and I can't believe how far I have come in this little time.  You are going to be amazed at how fast your body adapts.

keep up the good work.  I am here whenever you need an encouraging word.

Hey Stacie,

I'm like you, I'm determined to make myself a runner.

One tip I got from another BAF member who rarely posts on here anymore is to make sure you have good running shoes.  Don't be afraid to spend $60 - $120 on a pair of good running sneakers designed solely for running.  I listened and I'm glad I did.  I threw out the Bo-Bo's and got with the New Balance program.  It does make a difference.

Much continued success in your endeavors.
