Hello all! I am new to the website. I was wondering how I could meet some Black American people on this website! LOL!

Question, I am hoping to be approved for the Lab Band system. I am currently 5'3" and 262 pounds. Given the surgery I have chosen (slower weight loss), my height, my weight and being a Black American woman (we have fabolous skin!) do you think excess skin will be an issue for me?

genetics will play a big part in you having loose skin or not. its not as easy as saying if you lose x amount of pounds you'll be okay. also, the rate at which you lose weight may not play a part in it.

sorry if thats not the answer you were hoping to get.

Big Sam, I am learning when you are overweight you never get the answer you want so I am okay with whatever you have to say. But you could have at least said hello and welcome or something.  LOL!

Welcome to BAF .....Excess skin is different for everyone....lots of factors come into play like genetics, age, the # of years you were over weight  etc.   I am 5ft 4 ...I have a little excess skin but nothing  a girdle couldnt smooth out lol

Hi and welcome (Don't want to get bashed)...Well my personal opinion is no matter which surgery you have there is a chance of excess skin...Prior to WLS I lost 70 lbs on my own going to 208 at my lowest and I had skin issues...I would hope that you did not but I would suggest to exercise and drink plenty of water.

Each person will be different.  I do agree with you that the slower weight loss pace along with exercise will help somewhat in reducing the excess skin.  I had a TT done in 2005 so I don't know if I would have had excess skin or not in that area.  Otherwise, all of my other areas have shaped up quite nicely.  As of now, I am considering having the back fat removed because no matter how much I exercise, it still sits there.  Good luck to you.
