New Post-op Tip of The Day

We have been concentrating on physical things but it's important not to forget the mental part of surgery. We still see the fat person in the mirror and choose the sturdiest chair in the room. Some of us may still hide food, if that was a behavior we did before or even put lots of food on our plate because we just haven't connected the dots of a small pouch and small appetite. I'm 14 months out and I still go to the plus size section first in a store, I always keep a stash of food somewhere in my room and I will order something in a restaurant that I know I would never be able to eat.

The mental part of this surgery is very real and it takes a long time for our brain to catch up with the real us. Take pictures and your measurements so that you can see your progress and measure your food so that you don't overeat. When your pouch is new, the nerves are still healing and it's hard to feel hunger and fullness so measuring food is a must to make sure you are getting enough and not too much to make yourself sick.

This mental game is one of the reasons that a support system is sooooooo important. Take it one day at a time and remember to ask questions if you don't know the answers.

This was a very good reminder...I have started to shed weight again and just yesterday I realized that my pants were falling off of me and yet I have been reluctant to let them go. I take this as a hint that its time for me to go shopping! Thanks again.
