This was helpful to me because I was unable, or thought I was unable to get more than about 24 ounces of water in and now I am trying a different method and upped my intake to 40-45 and by next monday I hope to be at least up to 64 ounces (which is the minimum you should have per day)... Water filled be to much and I could not eat but now I am making it happen so good luck with the water intake, it is truly the key to success, next to healthy eating and exercise.

Hello Isa,

Thanks for sharing the link.  However, it is not working.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown

Hey Faith...I copied the post below...Some ideas of how others get their water in... This is so important so I was determined to bring it to the front one way or another... Thus far I had almost 40 ounces and I DID THAT ONLY ONCE since having surgery...So I am sure I can reach 60 today which is great for me.

--------------------------------

I get in almost a gallon. This is how I schedule the day. The times when I eat are when I'm done. The times for the drinking is when I start.

5:00 am 10 oz coffee w/NSA Swiss Miss
6:30 am 1/3 cup instant oatmeal, 1/4 cup fine granule TVP, 1 cup plain soy milk, 1/2 cup applesauce
7:00 am 24 oz Drink Mix,
8:30 am 1 pc roast beef deli meat, 1/2 oz cream cheese
9:00 am 12 oz Drink Mix,
9:15 am 6 medium strawberries and 8 chunks fresh pineapple
11:00 am 12 oz Drink Mix,
11:30 am 12 oz Drink Mix,
12:00 pm 1/2 chicken quesadilla and 1/4 cup refried beans
1:00 pm 12 oz Drink Mix,
2:00 pm 24 oz Drink Mix,
3:50 pm hard boiled egg
4:30 pm 24 oz Drink Mix, Strawberry Banana

I always have water with me when I drive the car so on the way to work, during lunch outtings and on the way home...it's a hint I picked up from smokers. They light up as soon as they start the car so that's what I do

-------------------------------------

At least 64 oz. On days that I exercise I try to get in at least 80, but I really only trac****il I get above 64 each day. I drink up until about 5 minutes before eating and then wait at least 30-45 minutes after eating.

-----------------------------------------

I TRY to get in 64oz a day, and on some days I go over that amount, yesterday I think I got in about 80oz, but most days it's anywhere from 48oz to 64oz.  I have an easier time when i work I think because I get up so much earlier (about 2 or 2.5 hours earlier).  Yesterday I got in so much because I worked a double shift, so I was up early and had to stay up late since I worked from 6:30am til 11pm.

---------------------------------------------

I get in at least 100oz of fluid a day, at least 60 oz of that is water.  I drink up until 15 minutes or so before I eat, and I wait at least 30 minutes (usually 45) after I eat before starting to drink again.  My sleep pattern is pretty weird these days, so I usually get in 40 oz of water during the night, in addition to what I drink during the day.

ETA: I put my fluids into Fitday along with my food, that helps me keep track of how much I have had.  That way if I am low, I'll know before I go to sleep how much more I need to drink for the day.

--------------------------------------------------------

80 oz minimum, generally 100-120oz per day.  I drink 20 oz at a time and follow it with a meal then wait 2-3 hours slam another 20 oz again followed by my next small meal.  So far it works for me  (I dont wait after I drink to eat).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmm... my surgery group has a "30/30" rule.  Nothing to drink 30 min. before, during, and 30 minutes after meals.  I'm having a hard time drinking enough in between.  I work in a very hectic office and I just can't seem to get myself to drink much at work.  I know that's bad and I need to work harder at it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

For the first year I almost NEVER had 40 oz or more. I couldn't. Made me sick.

Now I get in about 96 oz on good days-- never less than 64 oz....

2 12 oz teas (with a little Hood Faux Milk)
2 20 oz slushies
32 oz Powerade zero

------------------------------------------------------------------------

right now, I am getting in about 50-64 oz a day.  I am not a big water drinker but have to be now that I had surgery.   Since surgery,  I carry a 32 oz water bottle around with me or at least a water bottle and that really helps.   I found that I like to drink it at room temp, just slightly cold and that's the best way I can get it down now.  I will occasionally do the orange sunrise crystal light, but I like plain water the best.

I've heard that if you drink more than 120 oz a day, that can be a bad thing though, can mess with the sodium level in your body or something?  My doc said to try and drink a minimum of 64 oz a day, so I'm going to try and shoot for that number each day.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I drink (includes all liquids) 95 to 110 ounces a day, everyday. In the beginning (for you newbies) I had a timer that I set to go off every 10 minutes and made sure that I drank 1 ounce at first, then increased it over time to 2 ounces every 10 minutes. It helped me to get in at least my 64 ounces from the beginning. I also set it for 60 minutes after a meal to start again.

I found not drinking after eatting a hard thing to get used to, and the timer helped me a lot. I give one as a gift to anyone I know getting WLS.

Martha

I am definately bookmarking this. This is great suggestions. I can't take in that much liquid in one sitting only because I am too new out. But eventually I will be able too. But I will use this as a guideline to up my water intake.

Hey Isa:
Are drink mixes (sf Crystal Light, SF Kool Aid...) considered "water" intake or is only water considered counted towards water intake. Is it about total fluid (liquid) intake, because I don't see where there is any clear water...this is confusing to Me. When I see water intake, I'm thinking only water, and drink mixes are extra.

So, BAF Vets, can I get some clarity on this.
Thanks

Hey ValueMe...I am sure that more than 95% of people on OH would consider drinks that you mix water in with as part of your water intake...Now if you are adding a few ounces to a smoothie with fruit, this, and that, not sure, but adding a crystal light packet or diet snapple packet to your water bottle is considered water intake, I count the 20 ounces I used in my protein drink as part of the water intake. I doubt if drink mixes are extra. Why not start a topic- very important stuff here.

I truly believe tha****er is one of the biggest tricks to this game. I get in 90-100oz a day. I start on a 32oz when I first wake up (I don't eat that early). About a half an hour to 45 min after my breakfast I start in on my next 32. I can usually knock it out before lunch. Then I usually start another 32 in the afternoon and can easily get it all in before bed.
