The Love Of My Life: Nahbri

I just realized that 1 week from today I am going to court for my brother (turned 8 in February)...I am requesting full custody of him from both our mother and his father... I have raised him from birth (for the first 3-4 years on and off because of college)... Some pointers:

*I named him in the hospital and was the 1st to see him besides my mother: Nahbri Sohmeir

*When I could not find a sitter he would go to class with me

*Did EVERYTHING for him financially, mentally, and physically

*Attended school trips and even took him to his first day of school, better yet I registered him for school

*I ALWAYS provided him with a safe and comfortable home

*He is on honor roll and his teacher praises me for doing such a great job

*Last but not least he is EVERYTHING to my fiance and I...My fiance treats him as his own and they have a great relationship...

My mother has 7 children and I am next to the oldest, I have a brother older than I am, sisters Dime 21, Crystal 20, and Precious (soon to be 18), Wanya will be 14 in Oct, and my Nahbri is 8... I pratically raised them all and my Mother was not the worse but had issues... His father was in prison for 2 years and has been out for over 1 year now working and married. My brother loves both his parents to pieces but of course his heart is with me... His dad made a suggestion of having him and I got with him, just the thought of being without him 24/7 makes me sick to my stomach...And now his Dad realizes that I am the best person to raise him, but who knows how he will act at court. I file him each year on taxes, he is on my lease, and I am primary on the school records.

Thus far this year both my mom and his dad has done nothing really spectacular for him, not on his birthday or Easter (I allow him to celebrate holidays though we are Muslim) but anyway they did nothing... I buy him everything and it is not about money but food, clothes, video games, bikes, etc adds up... They really do not give me money for him but I still do what I do... He is starting a private Islamic school which is $3100 per year so I deserve some type of help...

For some reason I am starting to feel scared because I could not imagine it not going my way... My mom is for me but again who knows how she will act next Wednesday... I love him to pieces and ask that you all keep this situation in prayer for me... The 1st and last time I asked for prayer from my BAF family was the day of surgery and it worked, I am here. Thanks.

GorgeousIsa;

First, let me say ! You are a WONDERFUL person!

Second, your little brother is a Blessed boy to have you as a big sister. Not to mention the rest of your siblings!

Lastly, GOD's WILL~will be done! So there is nothing more you can do but Pray and leave the rest up to HIM! Your mother and his father should be very proud of you stepping up the way you have for all these years. Nahbri, will thank you for it later! Trust me!

This will work out in your favor. I believe it and will be Praying for and with you on next Wednesday!

Your mother looks wonderful! I can't tell her from the children!

You know he looks just like you, just put it in GOD'S HANDS and leave it there, things will work out for the good. And I'll be praying
for you. Also I do understand how you feel I rasied my nephew
Christopher for the 1st five years of his life, and they took him from
me he's now 18 and not on the right path and it still bothers me but
I have and have to just leave him in GOD'S HANDS.

allways treat someone the way you want to be treated!

Isa,

I know exactly what you are going through because i too am a parent to a child that is not biologically mine. she is my now 15 yr old niece and i recieved temporary custody of her when she was 4 and it went unchallenged until she was 10 and her maternal grandmother decided she wanted to raise her. The grace of god saw that she was unfit and had not any any participation in her life so she is still with me. our stories are very similar i had help with her while i went to college as well.

I will be praying for you.  he is with the right person and as anyone can see by photos and the times we have heard you mention him. you love him like he is your own and know that even when times are hard and it seems like we dont get the break we should get these children remember and are paying more attention than we think they are.

So keep doing what you are doing god has it all under control.

god bless

Wow...the love you have for Nahbri is awesome.  The fact that you stepped in and have acted as his mom without asking for anything in return speaks to the type of person you are.

He is sooooooooo blessed to have a big sister like you. From the pics I can see that you adore him and vice versa. He is a handsome little guy !

Sending prayers up that the judge and court system see that you've always been about his best interest and make you his legal guardian.

In life,  and especially on this journey there are sure to be days when you falter and give in.......just remember to never give up.

Isa:
You are wonderful, keep up the work! Don't worry about his parents acting crazy, just let your lawyer handle it. The Court will do what is in Nahbri's best interest...just tell them; also, at his age, the judge will probably ask him where he wants to be if there is a challenge and that will have some weight with a determination. Remember, if anyone gets "crazy" tell them that you will sue for BACK child support as leverage, but ONLY if they act "funny" (Dad is always responsible, even if in prison and Mom is responsible too). I wish you all the Best.

He is blessed to have you in his life. I will be praying for your situation. You are a very strong, loving and unselfish woman and the judge will see that just like God sees it.
