So as I cooked dinner tonight for my son(7), his request chicken quesdilla's(yea I know its spelled wrong) and spanish rice. I'm thinking in a minute we wont be eating like this well at least Mommy won't be. I'm doing better with cooking meals at home and not ordering out<

So the question is pre and post WLS did your eating habits effect your kids eating habits?

Hey Kells28,

Absolutely! When I am following my plan....the kids each good wholesome foods like I do.  I don't bring junk food in the house. Their treats consist of sugar free Popsicles, puddings, fruits, light yogurts etc.... My oldest daughter has actually lost a few pounds since I have started back being on plan.  I personally know that it would be hard for me to bring junk food in the house and not partake.... but more than that...its just not healthy for the kids or me. Hope this helps a little.

Yea I think I'm going to start doing our home food makeover soon. My orientation is next week and that's the "beginning" of my journey. I think it helps because I just have one kid to retrain, we aren't out of control but we can always do better. I'm the same way if it's in my house were I pay bills I might just eat it!!!

hey kells,
yeah, the whole house's eating habits changed...it bwas just me and my two teen girls and whatever i cooked, they ate...if not, go to bed hungry...

my youngest now 16, was pre- diabetic at age 10 or 11, so thats when i got serious about our eating...i very seldom bring junk into the house, when we go out to eat, its like we went to disney world...they adjusted well...cooking meals at home is one of the best things to do...i dont like going out to eat much cause everything is soooo salty...

Kelli girl my husband's stomach is shrinking quicker than mine!  I bought some sugar free candy and those MFs ate all of em.

If they want fast food I let them go at it but I don't touch it.  For some reason though, I've been cooking at home more now too.  I can't eat half the stuff I make but I still enjoy cooking anyway.

Most definitely!!! In really taking a good hard look at the road that got me overweight...morbidly obese in the first place...I realized that this is not a road I want my children to HAVE to take. And the way to stem that is to teach them while they are young so that they can grow up with the habits of good eating and excercise.

I LOVE to cook for my family. I am always searching for new recipes to cook for them. I make them all healthy. I have even shared with them to chew, chew, chew....and I myself got out of the habit of making SOOOO much food and everybody just eatin til they couldnt move....now I cook to portion sizes....measure and weigh EVERYBODYs food! At first they weren't with it but since they have been seeing some results they are happy. I also have them moving more...off the computer games....limited TV....get outside and walk and play. I have 2 daughters 12 and 8 and a son who is 14. I am determined not to be the reason my kids grow up overweight...not while I'm gettin skinny!!!

The food in the household deinitely changed post WLS and my daughter loves all of it!  I cut the line at my protein shakes - they cost too much for her to be slurpin down just cause they taste good LOL  but we didn't have a problem at all - in fact, she's more likely to choose fruits for a snack than anything.

She's begged me for carrot sticks in the store several times - I maximize that opportunity and get her to clean her room or something extra in exchange for it...... LOL!!!!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

Kells28;

Yes! I shop for the groceries I pay for them and I cook! So you eat what I cook. My son(12) and husband are cool with it but my daughter (16) does not like it. She goes to the neighbors house at least 2x a week and eat.  This old lady can throw down.
I try and cook the same foods as before just without all the fat. I don't cook fried foods any more!

Hint: Don't let them know its healthy cooking and watch them eat it up!
