WHY
I guess you have changed the title of your post - cause all i see is "why?".
I basically had to educate the folks in my life. Which means I had to educate myself first. A little actual knowledge of different WLS procedures, its risks as well as its benefits as opposed to what somebody heard about somebody else goes a long ways. When people understand that you know what you are talking about and are sure about what you are doing -- I found it gets a little better. I live across the country in PA and my folks live in Calif. - so it was a little easier. I didn't go into great detail with them because I know how they worry.
God is always with us - and in my opinion we also need human support too. Keep connected with sites like BAF and hang with the positive folks. Sometimes people reflexively want to say down when you say up - they may never agree with your decision but eventually if they love you they will come to accept and respect you are doing what you need to do for you.
