Rant and Rave Board is NOT for everybody!!! Newbie Alert
I cant figure out why you felt sorry for him. Its a poster who came a rants and rave board to chastise people for ranting and raving too much. What if I went to the christian section of the board to chastise people for talking about faith, religion, jesus etc too much? Wouldnt that seem not only silly but even as if I were inviting some sort of negative response since I also included how they could "improve" themselves and made it clear I viewed so much talk of jesus to be a negative trait?
Now as far as the other thread you were there participating in, well that was just pure entertainment and I do thank you for the giggles. I really did enjoy myself reading that :)

'would rather get gunned down than dumbed down...K'naan
my favorite thing about R&R is the diversity. plenty of people I disagree with but that's good exercise for my brain.
it was fun reading you over there. c'mon back and hang out!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.
size 8, life is great
So basically you're admitting that you went to the board and posted without reading the rules. Well, to me the egg's on your face, because it's pretty clear if you read the rules that there's no moderation and it's a total free for all, one of the things some of us like about it. Obviously, it's not for everyone, but that should come as no great revelation to anyone who's had even a little bit of life experience. There's NO board on OH that's "for everyone". I mean, the RNY board may not be of interest to DS'ers, the CA board probably doesn't interest East Coasters, et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseum. That's why there are so many boards, to appeal to everyone.
I found R&R quite by accident, and enjoy it tremendously when I have the time. The stuff that looks "flame-ey", I ignore. The stuff that looks really "ignant", I absoLUTEly ignore. The hyper religious stuff doesn't even get a second glance, since I'm one of those heathens people seem so afraid of. As you say, it's a place to "blow off some steam". That implies a certain amount of ... um... what's the word... ranting, does it not? If they are to allow your rants, whose should be deemed too edgy to stay up?
As for whether people are "crazy as hell" or not, people are crazy everywhere, or haven't you noticed? [That's a joke, son... ] I'm a nurse and I see some really crazy crap in the course of my day, most of it from so called professionals. I think it's important for people to know that crazy people exist elsewhere in OH; it's just more obvious on R&R because posts aren't censored. What's scarier than the obviously nutty posts by some of our more colorful members is the stuff disseminated as "fact" elsewhere in OH by some truly troubled people that newbies take as gospel. That worries me way more than a bunch of us crusty ol' (and young) folks griping at each other.
I'm sorry you experienced negativity at R&R, but buyer beware, as they say. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Walk softly ... [insert other cliche's here as appropriate] It sounds like, despite your warning, that you did have a good time. So at least there's that, right?

Better living through profanity.
MD, I totally got what you were saying and didn't think it was meant to be as offensive as it was taken. I have ventured over and occasionally even posted on R & R a few times. I enjoy reading there much more than participating at this point. I get the need to have that sort of board. The only question I have is how serious are the posts? I wasn't offended and appreciated the different point of view. But I am wondering how strong the personalities are in real life or if this is internet talk only. Just totally curious! Can anyone answer? And I am a Christian, but I believe we are all created equal; however, I take as much offense being mocked at for being Christian as non-believers do for NOT believing. It's a double edge sword. Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!
I'll answer your question: it depends on the poster. I know, crap answer, right?
There are some of us.. Sam and me, for example, that are the same IRL as we are on the boards. Ask anyone who's met me -- my own RL support groups in Raleigh and Greenville, NC will attest that I have threatened to beat people who take tums and flintstones. The running joke, no kidding, is that I'm pretty down-to-earth unless you pull out gummy vites. I think they plan on getting me a case as a gag gift. It's just the way I am.
However, there are some that I'm sure are not as vocal IRL as they are online. Until I have the pleasure of meeting them or spending an adequate amount of time on the phone with them, I can only judge them by what they portray on the net.
And while I am not Christian (Agnostic morelike, while hubby is Pagan), I don't mock people who have the belief. I mock people who don't think for themselves. If I ask you a question about your religion and get a crap answer ("cause that's what they taught in Sunday school") which shows no independant thought, I mock being a sheep and allowing others to do your thinking for you. However, if I ask you the same question and I get a well thought-out answer, then WAY TO GO for you. The emptymindedness of many of the Christians in my neck of the woods, or the belief that you can be a jerkass during the week but going to church makes you a good Christian drives me NUTS. Almost as much as gummy vites.

I am trying to figure out the purpose of "Captain Save A Ho" aka MAHOGANY DREAMS purpose for bringing this link over to this forum.
Andrea I agree with your last sentence " The emptymindedmess of many Christians, have the belief that you can be a jerkass during the week but going to church makes you a good Christian, drives me NUTS also"!!
Many of those heathens are in this post.
