I Need Help - Protein Shakes...Added Protein = Constipation...HELP!

O.k., before I ask...Double_Ayy...please, please - don't make fun of me (but I know your arse will...LOL!)

Since kicking up my protein I am experiencing lots of constipation. On a given day, I consume about 95 g of protein, from the shakes, chicken/fish, eggs, yogurt, etc.  I am also eating vegetables - but am not eating much fruit (hmm...maybe I need to eat an apple!)

Does anyone have any suggestions of other foods that would keep the constipation down?  And, no, I prefer NOT to take meds.

Cookie? Mack Mama? Anyone?

Thanks for your (sane) answers!!!

My mama always said that veggies and fruit helps the doo-doo sslllliiiidddddeeee......

Ok - for reals - how much water are you drinking each day?

And high fiber fruits are a definite must - keep your veggies green and dense, you should be alright.  For immediate relief - you might want to take correctol - that one works pretty good.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

The water intake isn't the issue, as I drink at least 80 ozs. of water a day.  However, the only fruit I've consistently eaten is strawberries.  I'll take an apple with me - and maybe eat one a day just to see how it works.

Correctol...will get some this morning!

Thanks MM!

Add ground flaxseed and/or benefiber to your protein smoothies.  If you eat yogurt, use Activia, Fiberone, or something similar.  Fruit is a definite plus.

For immediate relief, try Smooth Move Tea or Super Dieter's Tea, or MOM.

I've had the same problem since surgery.  I know its TMI but I had only gone 4 time in a 30day period.  I went back to work last week and started back drinking coffee....well it worked wonders and I'm finally back regular.  Not sure if the constipation was from my protein or iron intake but I'm so glad its over for now.  Now if I can get this gas thing under control I will be okay.....

Donna, my son's doctor recommended miralax or I used benefiber...neither of us suffer anymore...miralax desolves very well.

I had that problem but noticed when I started ingesting 33.8 fl oz of water FIRST thing in the morning, and followed that with coffee sweetened with one packet of the FIBER Splenda...I became regular like clockwork (same time everyday).

WATER + COFFEE + FIBER all stimulate the colon.
