Did you have to take the urea breath test for medical clearance?

My surgery is set for Monday, 5/11/09 and I took the urea breath test on Saturday.  I've been told that if it comes back that I have some sort of bacterial infection that I'll have to take antibiotics for ten days.  This is a bummer because I'm all set for Monday.  Has anyone had there test result come back negative and had to take antibiotics?  I'm just curious of the percentage of people that may have experienced this.  And to top it off, my doctor's office is closed today.  I'm a little stressed out.  Help.

Angela,

The test you are referring to is the "Urea breath test".  It's a test that will tell you if you have H. Pylori bacteria present. Most folks have it and don't know. The doc will put you on a prevpac and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the reply.  I guess I'm freaking out because if I do have it and don't know, I'll have to be on the prevpac for 10 days and have to reschedule my surgery .   That would be a bummer.

Did they tell you the surgery will be reschduled? Read QueenDe's profile here and look under "UH OH". She was still on antibiotics when she had surgery.
