Is it a sin to be overweight?

I saw a poll on ChristianNet and I couldn't believe they asked this question.  What are some of your thoughts?

being overweight aint really a good idea but i wouldnt go so far as to call it a sin.

i'm very judgmental of some folks and overly religious folks are on that list. i've never been to christian.net and i'll probably never go but just lookin at the web address has me picturing a bunch of intolerant fanatical nutcases.

interesting question...

i don't think the sin is being "overweight"...

i think that greedy and excessive indulgence (gluttony) is a sin...and leads to obesity...

IMO!!!  ..............

Doug I have to ask would you say that gluttony was your "biggest" sin? I mean in terms that it was your hardest sin to overcome?

"Was"...???....

Gurl...I have...and probably always will have, to some extent,  "gluttonous tendensies"...(if I'm honest with myself.)...and not just with food.  (My pouch...through "negative reinforcement" reminds me of this...quite often...)

(I'm a sinner...I thank God I have a Savior!!!)

(I realize this is a controversial topic...and a very sensitive topic...especially amongst us "fat folks".  I think this topic has the potential to make us feel very "naked" and uncomfortable!!!)

Gluttony is definetly one of the seven deadly sins.  Being overweight is not, there are so many reasons that people get overweight.  Some people unserstand that and some don't.

Thats such an important part that people seem to not get.  Some people drink their problems away, some of us eat.  Some have medical conditions that require meds that lead to weight gain.  Some of us  use food to soothe emotional hurts.

I think its a very simplistic thought process that simply views obesity as a sin.

I think that alot of people that don't know the struggle of obesity feel that way. All I can say is ignorance is a sad thing.

While Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, supposedly, not all cases of being overweight comes from it.  There are those, for example, who for medical reasons take steroids. or steroid based drugs and do gain huge amounts of weight.

Besides, if being overweight was truly a sin, I'd safely assume more that half of this country would be hell-bound according to the actuary charts. lol
