OK!! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THESE VERY PRETTY AND RESPECTFUL TERMS??????????? OH, AND I AM SAYING ALL THIS SARCASTICALLY !!!  NOW I HEAR THESE TERMS VERY OFTEN WHEN THEY ARE BEING REFERRED TO A FAT PERSON.  I AM GOING TO TRY AND PUT THIS AS CORDIAL AS POSSIBLE SIMPLY BECAUSE I DONT NEED TO BE VALIDATED.  THESE TERMS HAS BEEN REALLY TWISTED AND TURNED EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE.

I HAVE NVER HAD ANYONE IN MY LIFE TO CALL ME VOLUTUOUS BUT BACK IN AUGUST SOMEONE CALLED ME DAT AND I HIT DA DAM ROOF!! WHY????? WELL BECAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN UNDA DI IMPRESSION DAT VOULUPTUOUS MEANS VERY VERY BIG.....MAYBE OVA A SIZE 26 OR SOMEThING.  THEN I THOUGHT IT WAS A COMPLIMENT FOR THE BODY.

  so what i did was search the term voluptuous and ran into this link http://www.tigeru.com/ftopict-4647.html and was reading this and it was very interesting.

so, my questions to you BAF is simply what are your views of such terms?? do you get offended when these terms are used to refer to you? what are your views on these conversations in the site posted?

i know some of us may use these terms ourselves to describe ourselves and may even not even think nothing of some them BECAUSE I USED a few myself to describe me.  so what is appropriate?

I didn't understand most of your message because it's late and I am SUPER tired, but to briefly answer your question, I've never heard the terms thick or voluptuous used negatively. I think it means that you are curvy and shapely. Contrary to what a lot of people say, men really do appreciate curves and shape on a woman.... some men don't, (and believe me, I'm no man), but I hear of many men of all races liking women who are healthy, voluptuous, thick.... now there is a difference in those terms and negative terms, but these are all relative terms and would depend on the person using the terms and their intentions/motivations/preferences.... *I* would not appreciate it being called skinny, but to each his/her own....

You're doing wonderfully with your weight loss.... just keep up the good work and watch your body metamorphasize then see how these terms will affect you.... all the best.... -S

  I concur, Doug.    I always love a "thick" or "voluptuous" woman.  My definition of the terms, but the way:  a woman who is SHAPED like a woman.  Not someone who looks a) like a long-haired lil boy  or b) can hide behind a pencil.  :)

My question is, how come they don't have complimentary terms for big guys?   Wait, I guess "big" can be complimentary.  LOL

Just call me 'Kim", I really don't particularly care for any term that refers to my size.  Not that I get mad about it....just prefer to here my own name.  JMHO

The terms you listed are what mofos call you when you are 2 cheeseburgers and a bucket of chicken away from being a fat azz.  When you are officially a fat azz - all the terms mofos use to describe you relate to your personality - only then are you smart, funny, interesting.  OR you get the horrific 'you have such a pretty face'.

Don't get your draws in a bunch being offended - you're wasting your time.  Folk are auto programmed to see things that way - so there's no changing them.  Next you will hear slim, stick figure or some other ish like that - just keep rolling and doing you.

please see this handy reference chart:

voluptuous=good
thick=good
plump=not so good
heavy=not so good
full figured=could go either way

now if somebody call you big bone-did, the just tryna be nice....thats really not good.  that don't even exist. you aint never seen a skeleton and said to yourself 'wow, that jount got some big bones'.

if they call you heavyset, that throws all sexiness out the window.

if you're described as large, sex is still possible....its just that you're being seen as a project. like the dude gotta wear a weight belt into the bedroom cuz he about to do some heavy lifting.

I somewhat agree w/big_sam.   I can deal w/all those terms - but "heavy" to me is a nice way of saying "fat".  Sure is heck of a lot better than CORN-FED like people used to call us farm-girls back in the day.  CoRn-FeD - are you serious right now???

"Plump" to me is a bit on the 'fluffy' side but still better than "fat".

"Full-figured" is the same as "volumptous" - which is ALL GOOD TO ME!!!    Volumptous to me means all the right curves in ALL the right places.

   "Given him something he can feel..."  hubba-hubba!

I can work it ALL.  Never been called thin, or small or anywhere near that tip. But it's ALL good - I'm the same wonderful person 316 or 195...or 297 (one fine day)! Hallelujah, thank you Jesus!!!
