So here I am on a Sunday evening sucking down some jello and I AM HUNGRY!

Now I don't know about all yall out there but its a tradition in my family that Sunday is family dinner night. Mommy throws down the works and we eat happy. Sadly, I cannot partake in the turkey legs, collard greens, red beans and rice, fried sweet plaintain and don't forget the fresh banana bread my momma made all because of this tortureous (sp) 48 hour clear liquid diet. It is killing me and it haven't even been doing this for 24 full hours yet. My stomach is growling and I'm dying for some real food. All that I believe I am able to eat or should i say drink is chicken broth, tea, water and jello. Is there something else I can have cause I feel like and my stomach sounds like I am starving? I mean I am proud of myself for sticking it out this long but dayum I feel like I'm about to cave.

you'll be having surgery this week.

with that being the case, DON'T DO IT.  i know how you feel cuz i was there a couple of weeks ago.  i handled it by excusing myself from the table. i left and stayed away while they were eating and only returned when everyone had finished.  i'll partake in dinner time conversation but not while i'm watchin y'all eat all them goodies.

you need your liver to be as small as possible so you'll have a successful surgery.  you can't eat what they're eating.

my doc told me what i could heat & drink but he said nothing about how much i could have. so during that phase, i drank myself silly. i tried to fill my body with liquids to hold off the hunger.

its all about distraction....think about other things.....do other things.

I totally feel you!

I think you need to make a practice of leaving the house on days like this

Have you tried sugar free popsicles? They're refreshing and you can have as many as you like. Try to stay focused on your upcoming surgery. You're so close! You can make it!

Hey, baby,

Just stay strong.  Tell yourself its a little (or a lot) of discomfort for a very good reason.

I had my surgery the monday after thanksgiving nearly three years ago.  That last supper? I ate like a damned pig.  I mean anything I could get my hands on (I think I took a bite out of my mom's hand at one point..I dunno) and the next day started the clear liquid diet.  I friggin' HATED IT.

There were so many times I wanted to chew on leftover Thanksgiving food, but I didn't. I was scared to death of doing ANYTHING against what my surgeon ordered.

Whatever you do, babe, do not cave.  You will be fine.

Buy a journal and write letters to the new you.  Write to yourself saying goodbye to the old you (pre-op), hello to the new you (fresh post-op), 1 month down the line, 6 months down, 1 year down and then five years down.  Write down your expectations, desires, fears and how you will achieve these things.  This serves a few purposes....it gives you something to do when you feel super hungry and it sets little goals for yourself as well as put yor mind in order for what is to come.  Write until you have other thoughts on your mind.

Ditto what everyone else has said.  And especially do not sit at the table with them--that is just torture!!!   And if your doctor allows it, maybe have some of the liquid from the greens (pot likker my mother calls it)

Just, keep your eyes on the prize....
