Hello All,
I am waiting for approval for my surgery. What can i expect ? How rapid was your initial weight loss? Did you tell people of your decision to have WL surgery ?

Thanks,

hi there!  Welcome to the board!!!

I would suggest that you spend some time reading other folk's profiles - LOTS of info there - my blog is pretty detailed with everything that's happened to me, plus I keep an ongoing weight chart.

As for telling folk - yep - I did.  I am a very open person, though - I ended up in the yearly calendar for my program - so I go all out!  LOL  Lots of other folk don't say anything.  Really depends on your situation and if you think folk will give you grief.

anyhoo - don't be a stranger!!!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

Hi,

Everybody is different.  It depends upon your starting weight [the heavier you are the faster you will lose] your age - it appears the younger you are the faster you will lose and whether or how much you exercise - I've read enough posts of folks further along than me who say you can get away with not much exercise at first but that stuff will catch up with you so its best to get into the habit from the get-go.  As my ticker states - I'm 7 weeks from surgery I've lost about 78 pounds.  About 40 of them were pre-op. The rest post-op.

I told all my near and dears about my WLS.  I work in a small office [8 people] and they all know too.  People feel really diferently about this but telling people you see all the time makes it easier in the long run.  It takes energy I don't have to dodge and duck questions.  I don't have to explain why I'm not taking "my" piece of the  latest carbo-bomb cake somebody brought in. I'm blessed because although not everybody I know understands WLS - they are supportive and not negative.

I'm a little more conflicted about the broader circle of business acquaintances. Its truly none of their business -  I'm at a point where most people that have seen me over the last year know I've lost a significant amount of weight.  They will say - you look good - what are you doing? And I'll say something lame like "oh, jus****ching it or "I'm working on it" with a strong dose of "NEXT SUBJECT" in my voice or I will deflect the conversation "How 'bout those Phillies", etc...

Good luck on your WLS journey.  Its the best thing I've done for myself for awhile.

Peace,
Rhonda

Thank you sooo Much !   I am having lapband. I am an emotional eater and I feel like if I know what to expect, I will be less likely to have a relapse.

Hey there!  I told anybody that would listen, I was too excited.  I did get some negativity but for the most part, people were supportive.

My initial weight loss was very rapid, but it all depends on starting weight, surgery type, age, underlying conditions, etc.  There's no real way to measure.

Best wishes to you on your WLS journey!
