New Post-op Tip of The Day
When you are a new post-op, you really don't feel hunger and you basically just try to get your protein, water and vitamins in. It will be a while before you feel physical hunger due to the healing process and the inflammation of the surgery. If you are hungry right now, it's head hunger and let me tell you that hunger is the strongest pull of all.
Take this time to learn how to redirect that head hunger and baby that new pouch or whatever you have depending on what surgery you had. It will throw you for a loop, and make you hallucinate and see pizzas and fried chicken dancing through the air. Heck, I even craved food that I didn't like during that time. Journal your feelings, sip your water, work puzzles, take a walk and enjoy your journey. You will eventually get to eat real food but it will be a smaller amount and some things will be trial and error. No matter what people say or think, THIS IS NOT THE EASY WAY OUT
it takes work .

Thank you!!
I'm worried about my long term success because I can eat most things but I can't keep any meat down at all. I'm also worried because so far, sugar has not caused me to dump. I only tried one of those mini donuts but it went down smooth and there was none of the awfulness that happens when I try to eat meat.
I know it's too soon to even think about but, I wonder when I can try some alcohol?

I got buzzed without actually swallowing!
My surgery was five weeks or so before yours. Two weeks ago I had a Absolute on the rocks to avoid the grilling about why I was not drinking. I put the glass to my lips and down again. By the 4-5 time I was buzzed just from wetting my tounge. I never took an actual sip.
I order bottled water in bars now.

V'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
Since you are a new, newbie you can get your protein from protein shakes. Heck us oldies still drink at least one a day. There are recipes on this site to flavor them up to make them taste better. I don't drink alcohol but I think the time period to wait is a year and whenever you try anything new, you want to try it at home first. I've read where lots of people say that they get a buzz faster.
You should discuss with your surgeon and nutritionist about not being able to keep meat down. It may take several months for beef and I don't know about pork because I don't eat pork. I was able to eat some chicken moistened with some gravy so it wouldn't get stuck. Baked or grilled fish is usually pretty easy to get down and so is tuna with lite mayo or some egg salad. If you're not able to keep it down then there may be a problem that they need to look into doing a scope and make sure everything is working correctly. Get that protein in, it's very important !!!!!

You are so right this is not easy. Only the ignorant and the stupid could believe rearranging your plumbing is the easy way out of anything.
I don't expect it to get much easier but it is sooooo worth the struggle. Thanks for thinking of us early post ops!
