New Post-op Tip of The Day
I was talking on the phone with a new post-op the other night and she has been struggling getting her liquids in. The first time we discussed this about 3 weeks ago I suggested that she add a little lemon to her water or about 1/3 to 1/2 packet of sf drink packets such as crystal light, wal-mart brand or kool-aid for some flavor. Well she informed me that she was still having problems getting all of her liquids in but got some tea and started drinking that.
My next question to her was, "Is that tea decaffeinated?" and she told me no. Well let me share something with you. For every oz. of caffeine beverage that you drink, you have to drink 2 oz. of non- caffeine products to hydrate your body. Now I didn't just pull this out of the air. When I was a newbie and was trying to get my liquids in, I decided to get the 32 ozs. unsweetened tea from McDonalds and add splenda and lemon to it and counted that toward my 60-80 ozs of liquids a day but was getting dehydrated. My NUT was the one who gave me the tip about the caffeine.
I think it was MizD that had a post about drinking just pure water the other day and I 100 % agree. When you're first out , you may have to flavor your water to get it down but eventually you need to set a goal of jus****er and plenty of it, especially if you're exercising and during the summer months. If you find yourself at a stall, maybe look at what and how much you're drinking.
