Self Image vs Self Esteem

Mr. Baker:
Your physical appearence...how you dress, hair cut...has nothing to do with self esteem or whether you really Love YOU. Sometimes denial of some of the outter stuff may be more healthy and show more self esteem than over doing it. Why would a man need a hair cut every week? Why would a woman need to buy 3 pair of shoes a week or own "50" hand bags? Why would a 50/60 year old man want a Corvette? Who are they trying to impress?

I'm NOT saying be "raggedy" or deprive oneself of good thing that one can afford, I am saying high self esteem finds a balance.

Back off the shoes and handbags.  Looking good and accessorized properly is not trying to impress.  We just like to feel, smell and look good.  Not trying to impress no one in particular but I do impress myself every morning.  DAMN!!!  Thanks to the women and some men of BAF, who constantly tell me it's okay to be you.  Love it or leave it, I will no longer be a dressed up garbage can.

I am so with you on this note.....i personally struggle with my body image but, i think my personality is still on the high road......kinda hard to explain.......hum i guess why i am still a work in progress....

like you i love me some me....that is why i have to have put myself on a shopping diet....and really working on my MIND...in order to get the physical portion together....it is at times but it is what it is....whatever it is LOL ...I'm still trying to figure that out...

so what have i said?  i dunno

but.....continuing to wish you success to balance out the two...mental and physical!

Hey, Lav!

again, it's good to see people acknowledge real flaws/issues...we all have them. I have to take issue with those who gotta have it "all together" and always have the answers...funny thing is...that alone is enough for those of us *****cognize our problem ish to see the ginormous red flags!

Love what you love about yourself, fix what you want to change, and accept the stuff that's not that great (we all have it--no one's perfect)---and be yourself! Growth NEVER stops!

Thats what i'm saying though...

I'm happy w/ the person I am today b/c I realize it is better than who I was yesterday physically.

So b/c I don't like how I am physically doesn't mean I should be upset about who or what I am. I feel like i've found the ability to smile and still feel good about me regardless of what I might fall short of and not have.

You hear/see quotes on it all the time....

"When life serves you lemons make lemonade..."
"life is about being able to dance in the rain.." or something like that...

No matter what though I feel EXACTLY what your saying....
Smile for me.........

Trina, i thank you for your honesty. i'm tripping off all the question answers to the question Nate posed. i know i personally have issues, but i *still* know I am the **** to me, and that's all that matters...do

cool to see some introspection instead of posturing. thanks.
