I empathize with you peeps with small children.

I wondered about single parents and folks who don't have child care arrangements.  I was telling my co-worker this morning they need to shut down the malls and grocery stores also, if you are going to be this drastic.

I wonder if daycare centers are going to accept all these kids in closed down schools/districts.  I would be pissed if I had a baby and all of a sudden this possibly infected 2nd grader is in my center.

Well, I am hearing that the daycares are not suppose to accept the sick kids.... President Obama encouraged everyone to look for alternate non-day care arrangements....so in essence...its either going to be the parents, grandparents, another family member or friend that has to take care of the child.

Out of 200 kids though only 1 or 2 is actually sick--the rest have just been exposed.  So every parent is not going to stay home with their exposed but no symptom child.  Then if you look at it from the perspective that the daycare child has older siblings the goes to a school where they are exposed, so then the daycare child is also exposed.  That's why this whole thing is so ridiculous--every day we are exposed to millions of germs.

It's a crapshoot on who gets it, who doesn't.  Obviously you can take precautions but there is no sure guarantee and closing a district isn't going to do anything.

Yes...I am sure they are only talking about the ones that have symptoms.... The school district was definitely premature in its decision.

Sorry....I misunderstood your message the first time I read it....I think that really what it boiled down to is the School district has passed the buck.  The daycare centers that now accept these kids...really need to employ universal precautions...something the school district should have done....they just took the easy way out....so they think....then they are going to want those same kids to come back and later make up days...at least that how they operate around here....just plain crazy.

There are two schools here in our district that shut down for 7 days.  They don't go back till May 6.

People are going nuts here.  They shut down the ENTIRE Ft. Worth School District until May 9th.  One school in my son's district is already shut down.  I understand exposure risks but dayum---do you shut the entire district down?  Every child is not going to get it, just like the regular flu.

They are making people crazy and if I have to take 10 days off from work I'm going to be beyond pissed not to mention screwing up my move when school is extended a week.

Sorry just had to vent...
