People are going nuts here. They shut down the ENTIRE Ft. Worth School District until May 9th. One school in my son's district is already shut down. I understand exposure risks but dayum---do you shut the entire district down? Every child is not going to get it, just like the regular flu.

They are making people crazy and if I have to take 10 days off from work I'm going to be beyond pissed not to mention screwing up my move when school is extended a week.

Sorry just had to vent...

I saw that mess - and I feel you! I am waiting on HISD to lose its mind and do the same thing - I mean really - get a hold of yourself!

There's talk about closing the Mexico border - I'm like, NOW? for the FLU? That's a reason to close it.... not:

Heroin trafficking
People trafficking
Gun trafficking
Sex slave kidnappings
Weed importation.....

All that's cool - but a FLU!! Awww hell - SHUT IT DOWN!!!!

The amount of meth that comes across the border every dayum day and they shut it down for a flu???

Then my germ phobic azz is wanting to hose everyone down that coughs in a 100 ft. range from me with Lysol. I made my son take Zinc and Emergen-C last night and reminded him to tell the little nasty kids around him to wash their hands and cover their mouth.

Something like 50K kids are out of school--now they are infecting all the malls, movie theaters, etc.

I need to stop at the liquor store on the way home tonight--I'm not well stocked enough to spend 10 days at home with my child.

I've now made up my own emergency preparedness plan:

1. 10 gallons of Vodka—1 for each day at home. Also cranberry juice and limes.

2. 2 full prescriptions for Xanax

3. Chocolate and lots of it. Also ice cream, cookies & appropriate toppings.

4. Sleeping pills—not for me w/ the Vodka & Xanax

5. A muzzle, lock for one bedroom door and ear plugs—the ear plugs are for me.

6. And I am now requesting free movie rentals from Red Box and free Pizza from all delivery places within a 2 mile radius.

Yes, I saw that on the news.....I don't know...seems like an excuse to get some paid vacation days to me... What ever happened to making the kids wear masks and washing their hands more frequently in the school setting...while they are still learning. It seems that this would have been a more cost effective and useful learning experience for the kids. I mean I have kids...and I would hope that they would just enforce more hygienic practices as opposed to shutting the schools down.

Teachers will definitely be getting paid during this time but a lot of parents don't have 10 days to take off from work. I know I don't want to use my entire year's vacation on this fake medical emergency.

right along with you. I did start to think about my contiquency plan....because I know that there are going to be some copycatting school district out there. We just got our first confirmed case in PA....so I am bracing for the storm now.
