For all practical purposes, she is 44 and he is 47.  The older the egg--the more chance of problems.  Not to say that woman can't have healthy children in their 40s but the chances of complications are much greater.  Also, you never know what kind of problems she might have had with her son.

I'm not sure I want any more children as I never planned on any but if cost wasn't an issue it would be nice to have someone else deal with pregnancy and labor.

@ but the chances of complications are much greater.

Yeah I heard that too.  Something about "old eggs" since a woman is born with all the eggs she'll ever have in her lifetime.

I'd guess she wants to give her babies the best possible start. Sure people have children later now but studies are  supporting that it's  not healthy for the baby.  Babies born to older parents have greater chances of many illnesses.  As a matter of fact many doctors believe that children born to older parents have been either extremely intelligent or very sickly.  Sarah Jessica Parker is mid 40s and evidently not above giving birth since she did birth their 6yr old.  Additionally...we don't know her medical history so why question them?

True.  They have to learn at a very early age the difference between Tussy deordarant and Ben-Gay; her teeth in a glass of water by their bed and his teeth in a glass of water by their bed; and that funky smell Daddy makes when he makes the kid pull his finger.

1.  Do you view having children through a surrogate the same as having children via the "Va Jay-Jay" (as Oprah calls it)? Why or why not?

I guess the end result is nearly the same...hopefully a healthy baby.  I am curious what they would do if the child ends up seriously deformed. Would they want the surrogate to abort....or would they raise it as their own.... Would the surrogate want to carry a deformed child...I guess this would all need to be arranged up front.  Parenting does involve loving the outcome regardless.  Easier to own...if its from your own body.

2.  Would you have a surrogate have your baby for you? Why or Why not?

I would not have a surrogate.  I would not want a third party involved that could potentially make my life a living hell.  Later having a bout of conscience and want to come back and be a part of the childs life....Nope I would not take the risk of the potential stalking.  I would adopt first.  I am still thinking about adopting...there are so many kids out there that need a loving environment.

I agree.  Adoption is the move.  Black folks need to do more of it.  Real talk!

1.  Do you view having children through a surrogate the same as having children via the "Va Jay-Jay" (as Oprah calls it)? Why or why not? I would view it as the same, it does not matter HOW the kid got here, as long as they are loved and raised properly there should be no difference.

2.  Would you have a surrogate have your baby for you? Why or Why not? I would do it, I have even considered it before.

3. Brothas (specifically), would you push to adopt a child(ren) if your SO couldn't conceive or carry a baby to full term and deliver? Why or why not? Yes, I AM in favor of adoption and long as I can find a kid that was as cute as I was as a baby
