@ I would prefer that our child have the genes of one of us.............but.............if that was not an option, then I would adopt.

I could understand the preferring to have the genes of one of the parents.  Some people get kinda turned off by the notion of trying to adopt "chirrens" that ain't theirs.  But no one was a bigger pimp in the game than Sammy Davis, Jr.  He slept with a Vegas showgirl and got her pregnant; and then talked Altovese, his wife into adopting the kid under the belief that he was only helping out a friend who needed their kid adopted.  I believe she put two and two together but not until much later in the game.

Now that's pimpin' for ya.

I have two little girls.

I would adopt if I couldn't have any kids.

Now I realize that these two people are possibly very busy actors but if they are so busy then why would the try and add children to their already busy lives? I'm not going to rush to judgment on this one. She/He may be unable to conceive again.  Fertility treatments suck and I can empathize on that one. Or her prior pregnancy could have been filled with so many problems, they may feel that the risks outweighed the rewards. Or like you said, she's too busy. SJP livelihood could be jeopardized if she's shows up on the SATC set carrying someone other than Mr. Big's kiddo.

2.  Would you have a surrogate have your baby for you? Why or Why not? Been there, considered it. There's an agency in my area that we met with. The process is simple. You pay a fee (around $15K in 2000) and you are responsible for her prenatal care as well as hospitalization. Since we were using her eggs and a donor's sperm, it was considered an "adoption" so my old job was willing to pay for part of it. Also, there are grants available. The big drawback was the "open" part. I couldn't get down with allowing the mother to be in my child's life. Messy, messy, messy...

Of course, adoption is a good option, but using a surrogate leaves open the option that the carrier could be injected with sperm/eggs from the end parents....thus being their blood child. I do plan to adopt when my son gets a little older. I would love an older child cause I don't do diapers or bottles anymore!

Yeah.  That would be the part that would drive me crazy too.  I would want the surrogate to just give me my baby and leave, never to return again - like a deadbeat Daddy.  And I would never tell the child that he or she was conceived that way.  Sure when they reach 18 years of age and he still couldn't dunk a basketball or she is still too short to ride the rides at Six Flags Great Adventures they'd wonder if there was something I wasn't telling them, but I would still stay silent on it.

first - the VaJayjay thing is not Oprah's - it's from Grey's anatomy - MAN you are a no show whatching mofo!

Second - if not for my plastics - I would be a surrogate for the $$ - no joke, real talk.  Heck - if somebody can afford to NOT shiot a baby out but take care of it, why da heyl not?

Let me say that Angela Bassett & Courtney Vance had their twins via surrogate.  BUT - here's the important part: the babies are genetically both parents  (I think).

Now...

1.  Do you view having children through a surrogate the same as having children via the "Va Jay-Jay" (as Oprah calls it)? Why or why not?

Kids are kids - don't matter how they came out - hell, if they came from teh buttcrack (ok, that could be a smelly kid), my whoo-ha, or someone else's.

2.  Would you have a surrogate have your baby for you? Why or Why not?

If I could afford to rent a womb, and I exhausted all fertility options, or for some reason, I could produce healthy, viable eggs, but wanted to have my own biological, why not?  Win win, she gets paid, I still have my mini-me!
I have an @$$h*le, therefore I have an opinion. or two... or forty.
