or is Pork just not looking and tasting the same with this whole Swine Flu incident going on.  It was a nice day yesterday....my mom was off and she decided to grill BBQ Pork Ribs and Chicken....as I was looking at the Ribs smoldering on the grill...all I could visualize was this pig looking at me coughing...LOL!  I am curious to get some feedback from folks that are or used to be vegetarians.  How did you make the adjustment from a meat eater to a vegan or vegetarian?  I mean I tried the detox for two days and was crying to get out.  Now I do know some overweight or ex overweight vegetarians...so I know that there are some out there.  As a previous meat eater...what made you decide to make this change?

I am not a vegetarian - but I AM doing this challenge that Cookie put me up to..... I have given up red meat and por****il Memorial Day.

It was hard the first two weeks - passing up Burger King and crying cause I can't be a cougar with Jr. no mo - Whopper Jr that is.....

BUT - I have been working on a collection of replacement recipes - like the turkey meatloaf I made this weekend - MAN that is good - and my chicken enchiladas.  Tonight I am going to figure out some fish to eat.  I am surprised that I am not still feening and missing it - but I really am not.

The key is to make whatever you ARE still eating appealing and keep the variety going.  Which is hard if you are programmed for other things - it's a very conscious effort to think of other things.

Thanks Mack Mama,

Growing up in the South...I have eaten pork my whole life....I gave up chitterlings and pig feet about 10 years ago..saw all my family dealing with the high blood pressure....but every now and then I still feen for them with some good old hot sauce....bet I got folks ready to  just saying this.... but I really am thinking about trying to take it down one more notch and eliminate pork all together.  I know I can't eliminate all meat.  I did not eat the rib yesterday...just based on how I was feeling at the time.

I did vegetarian for about four months a while back. I set my mind on the fact that i wasnt going to eat meat and even had someone challenge me that i couldnt do it which made me stick to it even more. Then i looked at the anti- meat websites and some of those videos will have you not wanting to eat meat for real!!! Disgusting!!!!! after a few days though you really dont want to eat the meat....If you truly want to go vegeterian i say you can either start cold turkey...or cut out meats one by one.... right before i went vegetarian i was only eating chicken, turkey or fish. then i just went ahead and cut those out...hope that helped...

My life is like McDonalds....I'm Lovin It

Hi D&L,

Yes...that was very helpful....never thought about there being anti-meat websites out there.  I imagine it would do me good to google anti-pork and go from there. I really want to eliminate the pork...as a first step...I think a lot has to do with the preservatives and the fat content.  I can't eat a rib and not the fat....seems to defeat the purpose...yet again I really want to get the weight down...so its really not a good thing for me right now.  Thanks for posting.

I'm not a Muslim (nor do I play one on BAF-TV), but I haven'/t eaten pork in over 23 years.  I gave it up shortly after taking a trip down south for vacation one year and my cousin took me and our other cousins from up north to his farm, so that we could watch him feed his livestock.  He had chickens, cows, and, of course, pigs there.  The chickens got grinded up corn to eat; the cows got hay and grazed all day in the grass; and the pigs got "slop."  Now this slop consisted of all of the leftover **** from breakfasts, lunches, and dinners that we humans refuse to eat or whatever was typically left over after a meal.  Plus the pigs ate whatever we "city boys" threw into their pens.

A bag leftover from some potato chips - Chomp, chomp, chomp.
A quarter from my pocket...  - Chomp, chomp, chomp.
A bottle top from off of the ground... - Chomp, chomp, chomp.
A bullet from my cousin's 9mm... - Chomp, chomp, chomp.

My point is I don't understand how farmers can feed these animals garbage (**** we wouldn't even eat) and consumers will turn around and say that pork is one of the best tasting foods they've ever eaten.  I'm a software engineer and one of the first lessons that I've learned is GIGO - Garbage In; Garbage Out!

Stop eating garbage!  Say no to pork.

LOL!!!!  now - one could argue to not use gasoline by the same argument if you look at the crude oil it's derived from - dead, decayed and fermented dead animals?  Ewwwww - park your car and walk!!!!

Pass me the ketchup for this porkchop sammich, bruh.

True.

But we don't ingest gasoline into our bodies.  Now I've heard that some people use K-Y jelly and other petroleum based product in and around their anal cavities and their "Oh Lawd, Have Mercy" for sexual activities but that's not the same thing.

Put the pork down and live, my sista!

Well - I'm on this challenge now and am not eating red meat or pork - however - funnily enough, since WLS I really can't eat pork anyway - it never goes down right, so I have not eaten much of it anyway - but if I COULD - I WOULD.....lol
