You have got to be kidding me!
Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV but...
According to IL law you need to file a claim specifically an objection to service with the court. At the same time I would file a countersuit for days pay, legal fee, etc. The court clerk should be able to give you specific info.
Objections to service. Objections to service may be made by filing a motion to quash service of process under 735 ILCS 5 / 2-301. The defendant no longer must file a special and limited appearance with the motion. If the reasons for the objection do not appear on the face of the pleadings on file, an affidavit must support the motion.

Hopefully they will work things out and you wont have to go to court at all but if not make sure you appear in court on your date because if you do not the judge will rule in the plantiff favor by default because you fail to appear.
Take all your documents with you and everything should go in your favor.

After all this is over, you should move anyway. I wouldn't give them a chance to screw me over again.
I lived in an apartment before and they had to nerve to not renew my lease because I sued them. They didn't give me a specific reason for not renewing my lease but I know that was the reason.
My son (he was only 6) and my cousin were in the kitchen and the cabinet just fell off the wall! Glass and plates went everywhere and they had cuts all over them so of couse I sued those MFs!! Come to find out, the cabinet was only held up with ONE NAIL.
